THR One woman, two hips , one week

Hi wow this has been a marathon, the blues got me on day after surgery just kept crying wondering why a opted to have two done !! Then the spasms . But I kept saying time will pass this is temporary . But it does feel like Groundhog Day at the moment . Had my first wash this morning been walking with a frame it’s hard work with two hips but hopefully turn a corner soon . Physio seeing me today to progress on to crutches and I guess to try stairs . Ironic the my one week hip is called my good hip now and my new one the bad hip . Lrft leg feels like my leg my right still like a log won’t do what it’s told but hopefully that will come soon.

I can only imagine...
It is ALOT of trauma to put your body through in the course of one week. I'm guessing your body is saying "Oh my stars! What are we doing?":groan:

Hard to see the forest for the trees right now, but when this temporary post-op pain subsides, and you get through this recovery...you will get your life back minus Bad Hips.
It's going to be So Sweet!:yahoo:

Hang in there...hope things ease off very soon.:console2:

You're a very courageous one @cornishgal
There's no way hubs would have gotten me in that car one week after Round One...for Round Two :bolt:
I would've beaten him off with every assistive device I could get my hands on :rotfl:
It takes a special kind of bravery to do what you did. The best thing though is you'll only have one Recovery now!
Ready, Set, Go....you're on your way! :yes!: :yay: :happydance:

Thankyou so much @Layla the forum helped me so much in terms of what to expect from fatigue, ice, tears and of course the payoffs of my future me. I am a specialist nurse and well my job was getting harder and harder to do . I was getting to be a grumpy darn with family and friends as the hip pain ate at my normally fun loving personality . BUT it’s coming back , I will be walking with friends instead of staying at home volunteering to make meals , going to the gym again and travelling . The forum encouraged me so much especially the bilateral hippy peeps . Apparently it is an NHS thing to do one at a time a week apart if both need doing as have to be separate ops !! But being a proud nurse of the NHS the treatment and care has been superb my hats off to the wonderful staff that have been looking after me. Positive vibes to you all . Bambi legs getting stronger but boy do you sleep so much a trip to the toilet and I’m done for an hour or two !!

I have also been telling everyone about this site as it’s positive and realistic a great tool to use pre and post op to keep you going . I hope my story will help others especially if they have one hip after the other .

Everything feels exhausting initially and you've been through a lot!
Our world does get smaller and it becomes more difficult to remain upbeat.
But all of that is about to slowly change. You'll be a new woman...seriously!
A happy, pain-free bionic babe!

Saw your last post after I sent my first.
I think your story is inspiring and DJJFPC is the only other member that I recall had her surgeries one week apart, as you did. Your journaling here will be a valuable resource for BoneSmart since what you've experienced isn't super common. Any others planning to do the same will appreciate an account of the process. It's also interesting for us to follow your progress and we hope that you'll continue to share and let us support and encourage you along the way.

Yippee did some stairs today . New leg is beginning to feel like mine and can walk to the bathroom and back with crutches . It takes a while but each time it’s easier . I really can’t believe this it’s amazing . With luck I will go home tomorrow just have to do stairs one more time in the morning then home to truly recover .

@cornishgal, nice to hear that you get to go home soon. Take care of yourself and those shiny new hips!!
:loveshwr:

I really can’t believe this it’s amazing

You're amazing! Still don't know where you got the courage.
You're doing great and I'll bet you can't wait to get home.
Safe travels tomorrow. Let us know how you're doing once you're settled in and resting comfortably.
You know where to find us!
@cornishgal

@cornishgal oh my word!! How brave are you?! Wishing you well for a safe and speedy recovery for both of your hips. I too needed bilateral hip replacements for arthritis. I had the first one on the 8th of May booked the second for the first week in August hopefully, The way I feel I can't imagine if it's a good or bad thing to have surgery just one week apart ! - does it all feel like a dreamy haze to you?
I'm a bit in awe of you to be honest!
I too am a nurse and I'm looking forward to being able to get back into my job when I eventually recover- you'll be well recovered before I am !
I have found this site and the support from the lovely admins and other patients on the forum absolutely fantastic. I too will be passing the link to as many people as necessary - this site definitely deserves recognition and awards
I'll be following your recovery ( in a non stalker like way)
The very best of wishes to you :flwrysmile:

Well home now stairs wee challenging with two hips . I have 14 to the door thankfully there is a level area in the middle so had a rest on perching stool and then onwards after break in the lounge next came indoor steps . It was like climbing Everest but got upstairs where I will live for a few days and be looked after. Two hips in one week sounds mad but if you can get your head around it then it’s one recovery I can’t lie it’s difficult to have the second as you are on the road to recovery from hip one just kept in mind this is temporary day two post op always the worst as you get the blues after the anaesthetic . So glad it’s done roll on recovery !

Glad you made it home safely. That's a lot of stairs you had to navigate! I'll bet you were exhausted.
Maybe you'll luck out and you won't get the blues this time. We always hear, no two recoveries are alike, not even with the same person. Your situation seems a bit unique though as the anesthesia from your first surgery hadn't even worn off and you went back for Round Two. :heehee:

I hope your pain is well managed and you're able to sleep and nap easily in the days ahead.
Home Sweet Home, nothing like it. :)
Sweet Dreams!
@cornishgal

Hi my amazing double hippy pal.
How about let's change your thread title to something that touts your unbelievably brave journey.
"Two hips in One Week"
"One Down, Two Up"
"Don't Try This at Home"
:giggle:
You will think of something perfect, I bet.
I know how early days felt with bilateral...so I think you are splendid at not whining near as much as I did.
Sending you big sympathy hugs!:roseshwr:

Hi @Mojo333 good idea will have think about my thread title .
Now fab hipsters I have a question to ask! my second newer hip gets spasms at night which is quite inconsiderate as it disturbs sleep time. Spasms in groin and knee area , tried ice, reposition leg etc but still the little darn is active and pulling away ! Any suggestions would be appreciated . Tata for now
I stayed upstairs today as I think 23 stairs in total was a a tad too much . That’s how many it is to get from kerb to house and then upstairs .
Hope you are all doing well June sunbeams xxxx

@cornishgal I'm sure the 23 stairs have contributed to your spasms in the new hip. Have you tried magnesium? I have suffered from restless legs for some time and I can highly recommend it. It also helps a lot with sleep.
You truly are an inspiration to us all! I am in awe! :)
