All done! Phew!
This is the first time I have picked up my computer since my surgery last Monday. I have just been resting and exercising. I was not willing to even look at my computer at all because I just wanted to focus and regroup on what was in front of me.
My second partial knee was done November 16, 6 days ago. It went relatively smoothly. I was in the hospital for 4 days, just like last time, and it was fairly un-eventful. I lucked into some great nursing care, which was in stark contrast to my previous stay, so that was very good. My husband stayed with me the entire time, and was fabulous to me.
I guess the largest problem I had in the hospital was my I.V. starts. I am normally very easy to start and maintain an I.V. on, so I was not expecting the problems I had.
I suffered through no less than 23 different I.V. placements. My arms and hands are purple and black right now, and they look so awful. I wear long sleeves in bed because even I don't want to see them. But that will fade away, and it is behind me now, and I pray none of you will experience that terrible problem. UGH!
Now, about my new knee! I think it is going to be as good as my first replacement. It is very early in my recovery, but I am cautiously optimistic. I am scooting around from bed to bathroom without walker or cane, and walking around the house with my walker very easily. I have slept well at night, after I get comfortable. My pain is controllable with round-the-clock doses of my narcotics. The swelling is less each day, and my exercises are going well.
I will start outpatient PT tomorrow with the same group that worked on my first one, and my orders are for both knees to be worked on, so I hope to continue to see good things for both knees.
About my previous knee, which was replaced 5 weeks ago. It was thrown into service after this surgery, and it has performed beautifully. Overnight, it went from the center of attention, to never getting a second thought, and it has not acted up or let me down, for which I am very grateful.
Well, thank you Bonesmartie friends, you taught me so much about my knees and what to expect, I would have been a lost little lamb without you. I am sorry I took so long to get back online with you, but I am so glad to find you here, faithful and helpful to me as always.
I feel a nap calling my name, and I will get back on and read about you all and your progress this evening.
Take care, and thanks for your love and support, Kimberly
