All done! Phew!
This is the first time I have picked up my computer since my surgery last Monday. I have just been resting and exercising. I was not willing to even look at my computer at all because I just wanted to focus and regroup on what was in front of me.
My second partial knee was done November 16, 6 days ago. It went relatively smoothly. I was in the hospital for 4 days, just like last time, and it was fairly un-eventful. I lucked into some great nursing care, which was in stark contrast to my previous stay, so that was very good. My husband stayed with me the entire time, and was fabulous to me.
I guess the largest problem I had in the hospital was my I.V. starts. I am normally very easy to start and maintain an I.V. on, so I was not expecting the problems I had.
I suffered through no less than 23 different I.V. placements. My arms and hands are purple and black right now, and they look so awful. I wear long sleeves in bed because even I don't want to see them. But that will fade away, and it is behind me now, and I pray none of you will experience that terrible problem. UGH!
Now, about my new knee! I think it is going to be as good as my first replacement. It is very early in my recovery, but I am cautiously optimistic. I am scooting around from bed to bathroom without walker or cane, and walking around the house with my walker very easily. I have slept well at night, after I get comfortable. My pain is controllable with round-the-clock doses of my narcotics. The swelling is less each day, and my exercises are going well.
I will start outpatient PT tomorrow with the same group that worked on my first one, and my orders are for both knees to be worked on, so I hope to continue to see good things for both knees.
About my previous knee, which was replaced 5 weeks ago. It was thrown into service after this surgery, and it has performed beautifully. Overnight, it went from the center of attention, to never getting a second thought, and it has not acted up or let me down, for which I am very grateful.

Well, thank you Bonesmartie friends, you taught me so much about my knees and what to expect, I would have been a lost little lamb without you. I am sorry I took so long to get back online with you, but I am so glad to find you here, faithful and helpful to me as always.

I feel a nap calling my name, and I will get back on and read about you all and your progress this evening.

Take care, and thanks for your love and support, Kimberly

Hi, Kimberly! I'm so happy to hear you are progressing well in your second recovery. Good thing you've run out of knees now....:hehe:.

You should be on your way to a more mobile life now and I'm very happy for you! Keep posting when you can to let us know how you're doing. And keep those naps coming!!! As you know, rest is so important.

Hi Kimberly
Glad that you're on the right side of surgery and are seeing improvement. As you know, this is a tough recovery but worth everything you put into it.Best of luck!
Blessings,
Irene

Oh, so sorry about the IV thing... I would have been saying words that a 2nd grade teacher should not even know!!! :hehe: I'm the first one to put on a big chicken suit when needles are even mentioned. I feel for ya.
But it sounds like you are well on your way recovery wise. You know the drill ... keep it up!

Kimberly, Your recovery sounds like it is going great! I'm sure you'll be dancing on New Year's Eve. Keep up the good work at PT this week.

As for the 23 IV sticks? What the HECK??????????? I had one IV, it lasted 3 days and they took it out. That was it, no more IV's, a few blood draws.
Why did they torture you like that? As a nurse, this REALLY upsets me. Didn't the hospital have an IV team?

Glad to hear from you!! Hope you have a great recovery!

Kimberly,
So happy to hear that you are all safe and sound and Home. I hope that everything keeps going good for you.

Kimberly.....Keep up the great recup!!! It only gets BETTER!!!! ((:0)

Wow...23 sticks! That is insane!!!!!! Other than that it sounds like you are doing great! Keep us informed on how you are doing! We are here for you always!

Hi friends, I have been such a poor updater. I've had a few migraines, and have not felt like looking at the computer screen.

I haven't felt 100%, but we can't really be surprised by that, now can we? I have had two major surgeries in a short time frame.

And, after having been on antibiotics for over 3 weeks, the required yeast infection reared it's ugly head, but I now have it on the run with a Diflucan prescription, as my OTC meds and pro-biotics didn't do enough to ward it off.

Today I went to physical therapy first, and then to the OS for my post-op check up and to get my staples out.

I had great results at the OS, and he is so pleased with both of my knees. I was very concerned about the removal of my stitches this time because the lower three looked really "grown-in", but I didn't feel a thing!

So, I feel so happy about being free of my second set of stitches, and my knees seem to be on course for good recoveries, knock on wood.

Thank you to everyone for your wishes, and my apologies for not checking in on you, my friends, more frequently. Hopefully I will spend more time on the old laptop as I feel better in the upcoming weeks. I miss you all!

Sincerely, Kimberly

Kimberly....hon....we understand!!! ALL of us that have had surgery have been a newbie in recovery and we know what a job it is just to "be" every day!!! Things will get better and you will feel more like communicating later. In the meantime, we just appreciate a short update now and then when you can....it's fine!!

Glad to hear you are progressing!!! Keep up with the recovery mantra....rest, ice, exercise, elevate, medicate!

Me too - nice to know you are surfacing after all that.
