Apparently there's a lot of truth to the adage, "You get what you pay for." Also interesting is how many negative comments she got for beating the system (scroll below the video window). Sour grapes or righteous outrage? Curious . . .

Guess you've never heard about the UK's NHS waiting list then!

Same in New Zealand - we have a public health system with the corresponding waiting lists. Private insurance cover would not have helpded me as my hip dysplasia is an "existing condition". I still think that the fact that I was only "in waiting" for 12 months or so is a minor miracle, and my "call up" was a bit of a surprise. But then, last year was election year and word on the street was that "lots of hips and knees were being done".
