Sorry Bruce Protocol for Cardiac Stress Tests

3 minute levels and every level the treadmill speeds up and gets steeper.
Level 4 is roughly walking up about a 14 degree slope as fast as you can.
Level 5 is a bit steeper and I can no longer do walking, need to jog.

edk, I'd like to hear Ref's experience on the jog also..
My son and I are always playing in some physical sort of way. Sparring, wrestling etc.
Yesterday, we were outside. I was spray painting and the wind blew some back on me.
He started laughing. I looked up at him and he took off running. I took off running after him.
When I realized what I had done, I stopped and froze. He stopped and asked if I was O.K.
To my recollection, it was probably the first time my son had ever seen me run.
I only went 40-50 feet but that is the farthest I have sprinted in years.
Not pain, great stability.
Work your rehab hard...You'll bust that level 5.
By the way, I never did catch him

Now THAT's Cool!
The ability to do something spontaneously without even thinking about your knee first is a huge and amazing step to "normal".
All that hard work you put in is certainly paying off!

Really, At first it scared me. I don't plan to make it a habit. Besides, I'd never catch him.
I have to wait and catch him sitting down...

oh, I am not saying you should make it a regular practice--- but just that you *could* do it for a short while is an amazing testament to your hard work. When they say we shouldn't job I think they mean jogging for fitness, running marathons, etc. because the continued impact might loosen the prosthesis.

Your son is a lucky kid to have a dad like you. It is a great sadness in my life that my son's father chose not to be a part of his life. I know it has affected him in many ways.

Sounds like your son is pretty good physiotherapy for you Doug!! Watch he doesn't start sending you an invoice each month.
Cheers, Ross

Hey Ross,
How's is going with the new knee? I remember that when I had my second knee major surgery done several months after the first that the recovery seemed much easier and faster. Maybe the familiarity factor and less fear.... I don't know... but I hope that is true!

Good to see you here this morning!

I jog a little bit---but mostly I work the plate and my partners work the other three bases. I work the plate all of the time (it is actually something that I enjoy) so they get a "day off" on the bases. I will jog a little to cover third base on certain situations, and the knees feel very stable. I do not want to jog a lot, though, as I want the knees to last as long as possible.

Interesting in this area most baseball is done with a 2 man system where plate covers plate and third and other guy does first/second.

In baseball here, the base umpire has the three bases most of the time; the plate umpire will cover third when there is a runner on second and the throw goes to first base and the runner on second breaks for third. The plate umpire would then move up the line and take the play at third, and the base umpire, after cllaing the play at first, would move into position to possibly make a call at the plate.

Doug that is wonderful. It is a great feeling when you realise you are not in pain when you do something a "normal" person can do.
I have been gardening again today with Kevin. The trimming, pruning, cutting type of Spring gardening. I sat on the rocking chair on the porch while he made us a cup of tea. When he came out I was crying. He asked, concerned, if I was OK? I said, oh yes, just crying with joy as my knee wasn't hurting after being on it all day. (Other one was though). I may not have the ROM yet, but I don't have the pain anymore, that is such a big thing isn't it?

It does get funny. After years of favoring the leg and its ever increasing pain it is great to have a "normal" knee. I'm pretty much doing what I want to do during the day. Sometimes at night , I pay for it to some degree.
It seems like the 12 week mark was a big improvement.

Hey doug, A big congrats, I do believe you are our first runner!! I,m looking forward to being able to run but at a hefty 18.5 stone or as you yanks say 255lbs I,m wondering if I.ll be able to STOP!!! ha! ha! cheers klinger :D

Klinger, Your posts are always so funny!! I just love it when you write! Cheers back at ya!!!

Klinger, I'm knocking 285 so you will get there. Just don't go down hill!! I'm in a big fight with the weight again. I can cut down pretty well during the week but when my family is around. In particular my constantly hungry son, healthy eating goes out the window..
My biggest problem is night eating...I'm like a darn food vampire...

I,m getting to the stage where japanese whaling ships are shooting harpoons at me!! And people are calling me "MOBY"!

I keep changing my workouts to see which will work for me. I stopped heavy lifting. Went lighter weight with high reps and I still grow. I wish I had that problem when I was younger.
My Dr. doesn't use the BMI on me because of the lifting background. He wants me to loose weight. Hopefully this new knee will let me walk distance more consistently.

I lost weight during my early knee recovery days... it was just too darn painful to get up and cruise the kitchen.... the down side to feeling better is that "grazing" doesn't hurt anymore!
