I've been feeling excedingly tired and weary these past few weeks and complained to my doctor about it. Result; she ordered some blood tests. Result; I got the results today. I have a "slightly" elevated blood sugar!

I am high risk - apart from my weight, age and life-style, I also have two sisters with Type 2 diabetes, mother was and two of her sisters. Rats!!

I also am having a lot of discomfort and sometimes even pain in my left knee. Nothing touches it. I've tried every pill in my cupboard (not all at once! :hehe: ) heat, moist heat and cold. Moist heat seems to comfort it best but the thing I have only retains the heat for about ten minutes and then you can't nuke it for another four hours! What a waste of money! I had the MRI scan couple of weeks ago and rang the hospital today to scurry up the appointment.

On the good side, I am now able to walk up and down stairs without hanging onto the rails like grim death! I can actually manage it without holding on at all sometimes! And I can get up from my settee without having to push up, even with things in my hands. It's so terrific to be able to do that!

However, walking and standing is a problem as I get this darned pain in the back of my left knee. I am sure I have the beginnings of a Baker's cyst!

Oh shoot, Jo!!! So sorry you're feeling so out of sorts! Since your the High Priestess of Ice (usage...let me make that perfectly clear!!! Wouldn't that at least soothe you a little bit? Can you get to a pool? Bet that would help you some!!!

Oh, you poor thing, Jo. All those problems!

I'm very lucky as no-one in my family has ever had diabetes that I know of. What is the answer - is it diet or injections or what? I am sure it can be controlled but don't know much about that problem.

Then there's your left knee. What are the options for that? Would a TKR solve it?

But, at least you are able to do stairs reasonably well, so that is a bit of a positive for you. And you can get up from THAT settee (I assume you've still got the same one).

It sounds as if you're the one needing our prayers now. :cnsl:

Do look after yourself, and badger those medical people to get you sorted as soon as possible.

I've heard several people mentioning Baker's cysts. What exactly is one of those, and what causes it?

Do keep us informed as to how you are feeling. We can't have you suffering if it can be helped.

.......And when MAMA HEN aint happy, aint NONE of us that can be HAPPY!!!

Aw Jo no. I hate to hear that. Sorry about the blood test, that stinks but as you know it can be controlled, but I understand its just something else. Its ashame that left knee is such a problem because your right seems to be so good. I hope you get the MRI results soon and let us know. Well you told me ice the back of the knee so I do that, so yes do the same as a good patient would...lol..Dont try to do to much though, relax take it easy. We have our own problems but we worry about you as well. Trying to give someone advice to someone who knows alot is hard, so Im just saying your in my prayers and I hope you feel better soon....
Yep, when mama's happy everyone's happy...lol

So sorry Jo, we all rely on you so much that we forget you have gained a lot of experience because you too have been through the mill. Tend to think of you as invincible!
Hope you feel better soon and remember I'm only up the road if you need me for anything.:D

Jo

Wow you are not allowed to be feeling bad. Tell your doctors they have to get you a happy pill that will take the
pain away and make you feel better.

I have a Bakers cyst and they ain't fun. I use the ice on it a lot. Pain pills do not effect it.

Hope your sugar is not so high that you can't correct with just a slight diet change. Know a lot of folks that have
corrected theirs with a change in diet and not a big change.

Lots of luck on MRI results and do feel better real soon.

Jo, My prayers are going out to you, When it rains its pours, you get one thing fix and something else needs fixing. Please be carefull with your sugar as they would say no more cookies for you (lol)

Jo,
It will be ok. You will have to change the way you eat and lose a little weight but I promise it will be OK I have kept my Hubby on pills only for 20 years with just diet and excerise. So I know you will do better the he even has. And that Voltaren Cream is great on the knee's!! I just love it!!! Please smile for us Jo Please.

Oh Jo I know that when it rains it pours feeling. Get better. I'll have to read up on a bakers cyst now
judy

Jo

I sure you get all the problems sorted out ASAP.

I thought I would give you a little encouragement on the diabetes side.
After a year of very clear systems that I tried to ignored, I went to the doctor and my HBA1C was off the chart. I knew that I had to clean up act not only for that but I knew I needed a BTKR. So I really started eating right and started to exercise. I took Metformin for 6 months and then since the HBA1C was really going down, the doctor stopped the drug. I found that even 20 pounds off makes a big difference. I did get the HBA1C down to the normal range and have kept it below 6 for the last 4 years. At my May doctor visit, the PG said the diabetes has resolved and removed it from my diagnosis list. I also found as I lost weight the knees felt better and that did buy me some time.

As long as I keep the weight off and exercise I know I will be ok. i also found eliminating white food (white bread, potatoes, pasta) keeps the weight off and everything is ok. When the knees flared up I did gain some of it back but have lost that (100 pounds). I don't plan to go back especially now that the knees are feeling good and it is easier to move

Simon

I am smiling, calling ....

Look ....

[Bonesmart.org] Oh noooesss!

Thanks all. Makes me feel a lot better.

Jo, hon....it ain't FAIR!!! You've been a good trooper through your surgery and now THIS!!!

[Bonesmart.org] Oh noooesss!

Okay...the Blood Sugar Fairy is gonna come your way and take back some of those numbers she so generously gave you here recently. And things will be okay. (You'll notice the Blood Sugar Fairy looks amazingly like my friend, the Klutz Fairy. They are evil fairy twins!)

It's a good thing you were vigilant and caught it before it stayed high....good job listening to your body!!!

If I was there, I'd give you a stalk of celery and a big hug!

Salting that celery, Jamie? Now WHAT should we let Jo put on her plate????? Simon!!! What an inspiration! How long did it take you to take off that amount of weight? You must feel like an entirely different person now!!! :))

No, no.....no salt on celery....it's already loaded with sodium when it's fresh!

Jo, what on earth were you doing posting at 3 o'clock in the morning our time? You should have been tucked up in your bed, fast asleep! I hope your body wasn't so uncomfortable that it was keeping you awake. :hissy:

Was that photo one of you in an earlier life?

Hope you are feeling a lot better today after your sleepless night. Maybe you have managed a long lie-in.

It's dull, and raining, down here, but I think the forecast for you was quite nice. Sunny weather usually lifts the mood - as long as it's not TOO hot, as it was last week.
