no, I am not "lost" and on the wrong discussion forum..

I am just wondering if any of you ever experience that deep ache we've all talked about in our new knees----- in the hip above your new knee too?
Especially at the end of a long day or when you've been walking a lot and are tired?

Josephine---- could pain from the KR refer up the bone and cause an ache in the hip too?

It's been a long week back at work and I am really feeling it..... TGIF!

Oh, BC, have you been overdoing it? You poor chap!

You know, there is a phrase in political circles over here that "everything is connected to everything else"! That is certainly true of the human body. So when you get a pain in your knee and you favour it, there is quite likely to be repercussions in the same hip .... or the other one .... or your back ... and so on! The imbalance whilst trying to adapt to your new knee can cause a lot of these distant aches and pains. Just means you need rest and some pretty little tablets!

I've had the hip and some back pain the past day or two as well Carolynn. Hope the breakfast went well? Sue

My hip aches a lot as does the thigh muscle after a long day. I use the hot tub or a heating pad along with massage to help it. It has gotten lots better as time goes by. I think it is totally normal and to be expected. I had a high tibia osteotomy on my leg 7 years ago. That caused the leg to shift by 4 degrees. The TKR put my leg back to the original line so my tendons, ligaments, etc. all had to adjust. My pains have lessened a lot over the past few weeks.

I am glad to see someelse having hip pain on the same side asthe new knee, I was being to think I needed anew hip as well. Iknow the RA is flaring up but this is a new pain for the last few weeks.. I' m going to the rheumy Monday so perhaps he will have anew med but I' m running out of options having failed so many meds.
I jus t keep going & try to look positive

Gbetty: Amen to keep going and looking positive! Thats what Im doing. I know how good I feel for today, tomorrow, I dont know how I will feel, so I am keeping it in the day.
God Bless on your recovery, and as I always say Godspeed! (It means super duper good stuff and Gods blessings) or something like that, lol!

Hi Beachcomber,
I have had that pain since the day after discharge from the hospital, and I"ll be 6 weeks post op on Monday. It DOES get better - mine comes and goes now. It bothers me most when I overuse the new knee. My OS said that the ligaments etc get all pushed out of place by the swelling and sometimes take their own sweet time about finding their way back in place.
In my case, I just moved my foot the wrong way, something in my knee popped and the pain shot up into my hip, sort of from underneath, if that makes any sense. Sometimes it just aches and sometimes it's that awful nerve twinge like when you hit your funny bone.
Hang in there, it will get better, just like everything else. I find that heat works better for this particular pain... sometimes I'd sit on the heating pad with an ice pack on my knee!
Good luck, and keep up your PT!!!

Could some of the hip pain be residual from knees, even if fixed. I know my hips are tired from all the peg leg walking and anti OSHA bending over from the waist/hips beacuse the knees don't. I figure relief to them will eventually come when I am "realignened" and loose some weight from being so inactive for so long. Jen

Hi Jen, I get the hip stuff too. I am sure it all has to do with the walking and what the others said. It's awful when the hubby puts his arm over you and it rests on your hip, you just have to push him off.....thank godness for understanding partners!!
