My husband's Mom was a lot like that too. When my hubbie was growing up, his Mom played in honky tonks for the troops in Yakima, Washington. I first met her in person when she came to Kansas City for my husband's daughter's wedding. We had rented a neat old historical home in midtown Kansas City and a group of us were there in the afternoon decorating and getting things set up. We had a band coming for the wedding, so we didn't pay the extra $50 to use the piano that was in the building. Of course we had to bring my husband's Mom with us and at 85, we didn't really give her any chores to do. Dang, if she didn't find that piano, uncover it, and start playing boogie woogie really loud. She was having so much fun, I couldn't stand to stop her - plus she was GREAT!!! I ran upstairs to the business office to apologize and tell them we'd pay the extra $50. They laughed and said no way would we pay....they were enjoying the music too much. It was a really neat moment. Even when she was pretty much blind and in her last years, she would go play piano at the nursing homes for - as she used to say - "the old folks." Heck, she was 88 and was still doin' that!!! Bless her. And bless all the wonderful strong women in our lives!!
