Bilateral THR Oh 'dreams' exactly as visioned

I so feel for you @mikeycat ..... It is so frustrating for you to have this to deal with right now. I do so hope that your appointment on Tuesday wiĺl bring you closer to some relief.

Oh, @mikeycat So sorry to read that if it's not one thing, it's another--just recovering from bilateral hip replacement is hard enough, but then to have all the rest of it thrown in, it is just so miserably unfair! Glad that at least the hips are the least of your problems and you're feeling pretty good. I hope help for the hands and a future dental appointment might help ease your problems there. I know it's hard to stay positive when you feel like you're being besieged by one thing after the other. But, you must be one tough cookie, in my opinion, to have had a bilateral (one is hard enough) so that suggests to me, especially because you're doing so well in the hip department, that you will get through this hand/teeth problem (not as fast as you'd like but you WILL get through it) and then life will be looking up for you. You certainly deserve a break. Hope the weekend goes well for you, and best of luck with Tuesday's appointment.

You have my sympathies @mikeycat
You're a brave bilateral who seemed to be doing so well but now dogged by achy carpal tunnel and dental issues. I'm sure sleep must feel elusive and I'll bet you're feeling drained. I understand you like to be busy but hopefully a quiet weekend at home, as opposed to the country, is just what the doctor ordered.
Wishing you comfort and reprieve from pain.
Hugs :console2:

Thank you Layla and Barbarj ,linette333 and everyone that takes the time to read this. You are all so wonderful and I am blessed to have found this site and you. I really ought to quit this bellyaching--dad is rolling in his grave now--ha. I am walking unassisted and have walked upstairs and downstairs without holding and using right left right left. I feel great in the hip department and perhaps this carpal tunnel although really painful is a blessing in disguise as I could not use the cane and realized that I am quite strong and hips are fine and it has allowed me to walk unassisted and practice my gait. My PT called--think I am a project of both him and my OS. He won't let me go.
I am thinking of tomorrow with the hand surgeon and I don't care anymore about the pain I may have to endure did so much more at the hospital as meds were ineffective--lots o pain there. Must be paying for something I did in my other life-ha.

Hey, I am focusing on and smiling about your report that you're now walking unaided, and walking normally on the stairs--great news, @mikeycat! Sure, this miserable carpal tunnel stuff is totally the pits, but it's fabulous that your hips, at least, are cooperating and you're moving well. I hope tomorrow's appointment with the hand surgeon goes well. If you've had this surgery or some variation on it, maybe there might be other options available for pain relief instead of what they gave you last time? I know I'd be quaking in my boots if I was facing more surgery with the knowledge that I would have inadequate pain relief! That would definitely be something I'd be discussing with the doctor tomorrow! And just a final note--absolutely you're not "paying" for something in your former life. It is what it is, unfortunately, which is a crummy hand dealt to you--but you're going to get through this. Look at how well hips are doing--that remarkable body of yours is working overtime! You can do this. Hang in there, and hope today goes reasonably well for you. Cheers.

Thanks Barbaraj. I have never had carpal tunnel surgery and they will do tests tomorrow to see if it is that and how advanced(know it is advanced--the only kind of thing I have) and this ECTR endoscopic carpal tunnel release lasts 5 minutes each hand-incision is 1 mm. no stitches and supposedly painless--we'll see. Apparently you can use your hand immediately and fully recovered in 10 days. It is a herculean step over the open tunnel release surgery with 6 weeks to 2 months recovery, scarring, bruising etc. I always endured the carpal tunnel thing-gave up sewing, driving was a pain etc. but could still function. I can't now but what is worse is the pain kinda non-stop. I am skittish because of my body's penchant for not processing drugs like others. But at this time I have no choice.

Hello and Happy Monday!
Your doing so well in your recovery @mikeycat I'm truly amazed. While the pain and inconvenience of the carpal tunnel issues have come into play, you're choosing to be optimistic about it all in finding the silver lining. How admirable! It's helped you realize your strength in walking unassisted and honing a perfect gait. I wish you the best tomorrow at your appt. please let us know how it goes. The treatment advances sound amazing!
Hugs and wishes for a great day :)

Best of luck at today's appointment, @mikeycat It sounds as if this new procedure just might work well and without the prospect of a long recovery or too much pain. I have a friend who has some sort of hereditary problem with her hands (fingers curling in?) and she had surgery for this awhile ago and she acknowledged it was painful, and a tough recovery. The surgery you've described sounds infinitely easier and I hope that you'll get it scheduled quickly and it will be everything as promised. Carpal tunnel sounds like the pits--do you know how you got it? Certainly the recent outbreak was due to the demands on your hands/wrists due to your bilateral surgery, but sounds like you had this problem before then, too. How hard to give up sewing due to the problem, if it was presumably something you enjoyed previously. Anyway, I am really hoping--fingers and toes are crossed--that the appointment today will go well, the surgery scheduled and you'll achieve a great result from this new procedure. You absolutely deserve things to go well after all you've been through. Have a good day.

Hi @mikeycat
Just dropping by to say :hi: and thank you for that detailed and useful post of yours on the pre-op side.
As a bi-lateral yourself, I'm sure it will mean a lot to the member and her husband who seems very involved in her care. She's blessed.
Please update us all on your appointment later today. We care.
Have a good one!

suffering terribly with her hands so when I would visit I would do a very light touch massage, would work on her neck and shoulders first then ease down her forearms and then the hands.

@mikeycat I can empathize with your carpal tunnel pain. I suffered terribly with it after years in IT using a computer with probably very bad ergonomics. When I was in San Francisco I went to my orthopedic specialist (from a previous elbow dislocation revision) and he referred me to PT. To my amazement they started working on my neck, shoulders and back! I had incredible medical massages there for several sessions and it helped immensely. Of course they also worked on my hands with massage, strengthening exercises and other things but they said often carpal tunnel and other nerve compressions in the hand originate much higher up. So Crickethip is on to something.. They also used TENS and some sort of ultrasound treatment. I ended up much better and not needing any release surgery. It comes back if I over use my hands but doesn't cripple me like it used to. Good luck.

Hi my double hippy pal.:)
I'm sending all the best Mojo your way.:loveshwr::loveshwr::loveshwr:

I need a permanent solution. I saw the hand surgeon and I am beyond anything but corrective but it is a 5 minute thing each hand but he suggests 1 at a time. He took a detailed account and took my fears into account and willo give me a larger dose of the anesthetic given my history. The pain is shooting up my arm as the nerves are compressed. There may be residual numbness- who cares- as it has been a considerable time that I have endured this and the exact reason I may have this.He was informative and showed me videos what he will do. He has extensive working experience in Boston, New York,California, Montreal. He said he could do it in 2 days but suggested I think it over--what's to think--. I am calling today to schedule. Wish me luck. Today is murder as I prepared dinner last night. Hands are now a source of my sorrow.

That all sounds very positive. I understand wanting to get the first one done as soon as possible and I hope they can quickly work you into their schedule. @mikeycat

I have a date next Thursday Aug 22. They will call back with the time. I am just filling out a detailed questionnaire now. I have to call the PT as I am scheduled for Friday at rehab--no way-- I can't feel my hands. My hips are on hold-geez.
6 days after surgery I am fine according to the documentation after getting ECTR surgery but doc guarantees that same night--blissful sleep--no pain--yippee.

So glad to hear that you have a date for your surgery now, @mikeycat . I can imagine how you will be counting the days until you are rid of that pain. Relief is in sight!

Hope you have a great week double hippy pal!:chuckmarch:

Well, next step, after reviewing the procedure and talking with the doctor, @mikeycat, is scheduling the procedure--and now that's done. I really hope that, as promised, you will have a great experience and get that carpal tunnel syndrome kicked to the curb. Then it will be back to hip work although given that you're walking so well these days, seems like you'll just continue on a steady upward trajectory there. You're getting there!

I'm happy to read you have something scheduled @mikeycat
You've been doing so well recovering from BTHR that it's a shame to see you suffering
with something else. I understand your fears but look at how terrified you were of hip surgery and you've been recovering like a champ. I'm sure this will be a small blip on the screen allowing you to finally move forward without pain. You can do this!
Hope your day is sweet :)

@mikeycat so happy you finally have a date to get the first hand done and get started on some relief! Once you get the carpal tunnel knocked out and then brand new hips, you are going to be a force to recon with!
