September was a good month for us hippies and I'm sure October will be even better! good luck to all the octobers!

I am new to this forum, scheduled for right THR on Oct 20th. 41 years old. Found out this past spring that the pain I have been dealing with for the last 10+ years is severe arthritis caused by Dysplasia -coupled with a few minor injuries to the right leg.
I never really knew how bad it had gotten. People would tell me I was limping but I didn't even notice. I think over years I just got used to the changes and the pain. Last year my back went out due to the twists in my pelvis which finally led to my hip diagnosis.
I am somewhat afraid but I am also excited that I will be able to do the things I love to do again...walks, biking, gardening...STANDING!! I would even be happy to be able to clean my house again. Thank goodness my DH and DD have been keeping things in order.
Blessings to all,
Sheri

Hi,
I'm not entirely new here as I posted a question or two several months ago. Been reading since then.
I'm a 68 year old male in pretty good shape except for my arthritic right hip which is scheduled for replacement on October 21st. Not too worried about the operation and its immediate aftermath, but am concerned about some of the nastier complications that occasionally happen. This week and next I have all the pre-op events and then two weeks of just waiting.
You all are sure an upbeat and supportive group!

Welcome, SheriALS! Happy you are now officially a BoneSmartie. You are going to be so happy once you get your new hip. We have others on the forum who have been where you are and they have a brand new (active) life now. Congratulations on a great decision!!

How nice. First we have Sheri on the 20th, than Righty on the 21st than me on the 22nd. :thmb:

:shk:and a bunny babe on the 23rd! THE CALENDAR IS REALLY FILLING UP!!:shk:

No date yet for getting my TurboHip but will be glad to share it when I get one.

This is my birthday as well as my oldest daughter's so I'll celebrate that instead. :D

October 27th for me! Can't wait to get this behind me.... Just went out and bought a few new bathrobes and nightgowns...and slippers.... don't want to drag the old beat up nightclothes to the hospital. I figure I will spend a few days in bed, so I might want to try to look alive!

I am getting nervous, but hey, I will be fine.:thmb:

Of COURSE you'll be FINE, SAS!!!!!! :cnsl:

Hi guys, I am in the October club too, but for a RTKR, on the 23rd. I never looked over "here" before, just on the knee side. I like the club idea. And like sasvermont I have been shopping for new pj's, slippers a robe and a whole new "rehab" wardrobe, lol. It's almost like I'm planning a trip or something. Heck, I even bought new panties and socks, lol. (any excuse to shop, right girls?)

I hadn't thought about needing some new pj's or a robe. I was thinking about some new yoga pants...
I have been feeling a sort of nesting (like when I was pregnant) where I want to stock up on stuff and clean the house...this is not good in my condition...scrubbed both the showers today. I will probably be sorry tomorrow.
Maybe I will have to take the rolling chair out for a little shopping therapy to make me feel better :)
Sheri

I have most of my preparation shopping done, as far as the frozen food for the next few weeks. I am setting aside three full days, right before the surgery, to get the last minute items taken care of!

I have a slew of Dr. / pre-op appointments next week, and then.... the wait.........

One, quick question, how long does one usually have to wait until they can take a real shower? Just curious.

I am also going to have all the sheets for changing the bed (by someone else) and tons of towels etc. ready for the down time for me.

I surely hope I have one of those fabulous recoveries and get back on my feet with little pain etc. but we all must prepare for the other recovery where you are in pain etc. etc.

I wonder why some folks just breeze by and others, well, struggle. Dumb luck? Different types of surgery? Different physical preparation? Yes?

Hi Sasvermont, sounds like you are doing fantastic preps! As for showering - they got me in the shower in hospital on day 3, but no showers for me at home for 6 weeks because its over the bath, not walk in. I guess it could depend on how they stitch you up and generally how you are doing, but it did feel good!
