Obese, trying to lose weight

Beth, it's soooo normal to be scared. This is a major life-changing decision you are undertaking. A decision for surgery in an emergency and life threatening situation is an easier choice. But there is something about having to decide to do it when part of you wonders if you might be able to make it just a little bit longer. I think we all felt that before having the knee replacement. As others have said though, it is so wonderful not to have the bone on bone pain, that you will soon know you made the right choice. The first few days you may doubt your wisdom, but that soon goes away as your mobility increases. As for your job, in today's world there are very few jobs that can't be done at least partly from home. I'm assuming you are writing your posts from a home computer. Are there tasks you could do from home and then email to the office? Calls made from home? Reports typed and sent online? When my elderly parents needed me to take care of them, I worked from their home for about 6 months and it worked out fine. Think about it some. You will need to be off work for quite a while most likely and if you could work at least part time from home, it would be better for everyone. Then they wouldn't be pressuring you to return too fast - something that has happened to others on the forum. Keep posting! You can always find support here! ...Jamie

I would be glad to work from home. But since I work at a police department, everything is hooked up to the main computer room, and cannot be sent out to anyone outside of the building because of the "sensitive" nature of our files. But they COULD send me a couple of databases that I work on every day......I'll figure that out. Like I said, I am becoming LESS concerned about that.

The old axiom is "no-one's indespensible" though we all like to think we are! I know I have felt that way in more than one job in my life!

Also, it's human nature to be anxious > terrified about having surgery/ anaesthetic. Look at it this way - we'd have to be more than a bit weird to anticipate it with pleasure, now wouldn't we!

You should talk to your IT personnel as they might be able to install what is called a virtual private network (VPN). I work from home and use a VPN, I get into the company computers and do my work.
