Any hints as to when my knee will recover from proper sensation and numbness. At the moment one side is numb, but the other side is over-sensitive, so much so that I cannot wear trousers at all, and when I sit down I lift the fabric from it.

It is now 10 weeks since my TKR. I can walk round the house OK and use stairs with a handrail. Not yet had the confidence to go out of the house without my husband, but I plan to go to the supermarket tomorrow.

Oh could be some weeks or even months yet! Have you tried putting some adhesive dressings on the sensitive part? You can get OpSite squares from the chemists. Not cheap but you can leave them on for a few days at a time provided it't not actually across your scar.

Hope you find that new lease of life when you step outside alone for the first time. It will be a new beginning,

It took a good six months for my knee to start getting sensation back. It started with an odd squiggling feeling in the knee cap area.
Now, at 14 months post op there is only a slight numb feeling. I can kneel with the knee on carpet with no problem...It doesn't like bare floors though.

I'm a year out and still have some areas of numbness. But I did experience sensitivity like you describe that went away after about 4 months. It will get better....hang in there!!!

I'm 5 months post-op and about a month ago, where I had numbness, I started getting a little prick of pain here and there. I told the OS when I saw him 2 weeks ago and he affirmed that was normal and that I was indeed on my way to getting the feeling back. He said it could take up to a year and maybe more to get full feeling back.

Hi Silver...my left TKR was so sensitive that I couldn't even tolerate long pants for about 6 months, and I couldn't wear jeans for about 7 months...and it was about 4 months before I could have a sheet or blanket touching it.

I still have a patch of numbness on that leg, but it goes through phases when it tingles and starts waking up a bit, then it'll hold steady for a while and go through another getting-feeling-back phase.

My right TKR is completely different--smaller numb spot and no sensitivity at all. I've been able to wear jeans since week 2. Go figure.

Hang in there--it'll all be back to normal eventually, it just takes longer than any one of us would like.

Weezy! So glad you popped in!
Now THAT must really have been challenging getting dressed!

A slow day at the moment! So I'm taking advantage of it!

Fortunately, it was summer and fall, so I wore walking shorts and "pedal pusher" length (I don't know what they call them now--but they come to right below the knee but with slits on the side so the knee area is very loose). And by the time the weather turned colder, I could tolerate my "work" pants--wool suit pants lined with smooth fabric and were very loose in the leg.

I must admit, I have to wear flannel trousers rather than nylon at work and have had to buy a bigger size of jeans as the rubbing is horrid. Numbness wise I still have it nearly 4 months later, my surgeon said mine will stay due to the pulling of my nerves to re align my muscles, i don't mind to be honest makes it less sore...
