I had my initial OS appointsment Feb. 2006.

I was limping and had some problems rotating my hip out.

Initially the doctor told me to wait until I was 50, so the replacement would last longer.

After 6 months I decided to go for it. He agreed to do it, then I whimped out and figured I could wait a little longer.
Started taking anti-inflamitory, sorta helped. Have been able to go on my daily "hobble" for a few miles.

Well, today I went to do weights. WOW what a change in my flexability from 1 and 1/2 years ago. I had trouble getting on some of the equipment, The recumbent bike hurt, the treadmill was okay. Is it normal to go down hill so fast???

After the experience at the gym I said to myself "is this how you want to spend your life?"....

Fear is a paralyzing thing. But seeing how quickly my joint has deteriorated is scarier!

I do want to find a surgeon that is more "pro" THR in the young. Not that the other surgeon isn't qualified or willing, it's just nice to have someone who is confident and supportive of younger people getting THR's

I cannot understand why the OS you have seen are so reluctant. The criteria should be the quality of life you are having not your age. Hips have been around long enough for that not to be so much of an issue. I'd get phoning round and find yourself a more sympathetic surgeon!
