Hi @Mr.fun , I've read your posts and some of the answers more thoroughly, and I wasn't aware what MD involved. Sorry for that. Now I've read up about it a little bit and understand more. I hope this will be addressed and that you will receive the appropriate treatment. I wish you all the best. And do carry on posting in Bonesmart so that people with similar conditions get useful information and advice for the future.

3.5 months now and 1 week since my surgeon diagnosed with HO and scripted NAPROXEN. Pain is a little better but still difficult to sit. pain in crease of leg. once I rise from sitting i have to wait a moment because I cant bear the wait on my surgical leg. limping after I get up all depends on how long i was sitting for. Driving sucks still. its all the pain in the front of thigh and the pain in crease of leg. still cant tie shoes either. Morning is a different pain. its stiffness that is causing me to limp. Different then sit to stand where that is wait bearing. Hope everyone is getting better

4 month up date. Not feeling much of an improvement. A little easier to get in and out of car. pinching infront of crease is not much better when driving. sit to stand stutter steps a tiny bit better I think. ROM is the same. No where close to putting shoes or socks on yet. Any physio or light stretching just pisses of the hip flexor and makes pinching and stutter steps worse. Laying on my affected hip (anterior approach) feels very swollen at the incision. New physio person said my range of motion is around 4 weeks. Not much he can do. He feels i am to young to live like this and if my surgeon is not listening to my complaints that I should get a second opinion. physio says I should not b happy with these results. but yet I wait and try to be patient. curious to hear if anyone else can get their shoes and sock on yet.
p.s I don't think the HO is the issue been complaining

of the jammed feeling in the front since 4-5weeks

Mr. Fun,
It took me several months to be able to put my shoes on by myself.
Do you have a long shoe horn? I purchased one when I couldn't get my shoes on regular way and they work great. They are collapsible so you can travel with it if need be.

Are you able to get a second opinion in Canada? I may be wrong but I wonder if a revisionist would have more knowledge on how to treat this hyperactive hip? I have no experience with this diagnosis but I think I'd be pursuing a second and possibly a third opinion if I could.

Take care and please keep us updated.

I can get another opinion. It will probably take 6 months. I have started the process. I see my surgeon end of the month. He is not saying that there is not an issue. He is just saying to be patient because of the 6-12 month long recovery. I'm also thinking that when we are at 3 months and we are not recovered most of us go back and complain of some kind of issue. when only more time is needed. Fingers crossed, I guess. I will push him to book MRI, CT and bone scan. If I start to feel better we can always cancel them. I for one am not intimated by doctors and I can be very assertive with my words.

I know nothing about the system in Canada. Is there a way to see a surgeon for an opinion if you go outside the system and pay out of pocket? Would seem worthwhile to me if you are concerned.

@Eman85 we have plenty of good surgeons. Our government pays for all medical expenses. The problem is the wait times. By wait times, I mean for everything. MRI, CT SCANS. BONE SCANS doctor referrals. It would make no sense for me to go to our neighbouring country(USA). Even if a surgeon in the USA made a conclusion it would be impossible to afford the surgery there. And back to the waiting list here.

Sorry to hear youre struggling I hope this works out for you. I'm only on 11.5 weeks so it's relatively early but I'm a similar age to you and went into the operation in good shape physically aside from my hip problem as well. I'm still getting alot of pain if I'm sat for any length of time although the mobility is coming back slowly but the recovery is very up and down. Hopefully there's no complication for you and it's just a slow recovery. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you pal

@Rich75 Thanks fella. Same as you. I was in good shape. Did you have anterior or posterior?
Not able to get a sock on or put a shoe on. Pain in crease when walking up stairs and I have about 90 degree of flexion. ROM is 100 times worse and I'm at 4 months. Pain sits from 4-7. I'm starting to get irritated.

Hi @Mr.fun
I know recovery from hip replacement can be extremely frustrating...
. I see my surgeon end of the month. He is not saying that there is not an issue. He is just saying to be patient because of the 6-12 month long recovery.
Even when we are younger and fit, issues can persist while our bodies readjust... I was still trying to find out what was helpful and icing regularly after work at 4 months in....
I'm also thinking that when we are at 3 months and we are not recovered most of us go back and complain of some kind of issue. when only more time is needed.
I think you think right.
Hope your appointment will give you some answers and reassurance.

Mr. Fun,
You do need to advocate for yourself in this time of healthcare.
Good for you, speak your mind and get the results you are needing.
I recently changed over to a new OS and was very happy with how I've been treated and listened to rather than just looking at me like I didn't know what I'm talking about.
In less than 4 weeks I've had new X-rays, MRI and spine doctor visit and next week another MRI and pain shots for my back.
My new OS went over my hip X-Rays with me and in an hour learned more about some of the issues I might have down the line than I was ever told prior. My former OS is excellent surgeon and well respected but because he didn't do the surgery he was kind of just "managing" me, or at least that's the way it felt.

just over 4 months now. same issues. any knee to chest causes impingement in crease.(at 90 degree flexion) cant pick up anything of floor.(impigement) cant put on shoe or sock. u guessed it impingement again. I feel like the impingement in the crease sets of an inflammatory response in my upper thigh which pisses it off even more. sitting in a chair sucks (impingement).. Once I sit to stand I stutter step. By the time I go to bed at night my hip flexor is screaming. Lieing on my back with my legs flat pulls on my hip flexor. very painful. walking through out the day causes pulling in my hip flexor. The more I try and move the worse I am at night. If this turns around I will apologies to the surgeon for being a bother. I will keep posting my progress until i can say it has been corrected and what the problem or solution was. hopefully by the 6 month mark I feel better. I'm still off work and worse of now then b4 surgery.

Hi poor @Mr.fun , that's not normal. Looks as though they bungled it up honestly. And still being off work - not good. You might need a revision. But I'm a lay person and can't judge. Lets see what those people say, who are in the know. Do keep us up-to-date. Best wishes anyway - Constanze

@Mr.fun I am so sorry that you are dealing with these ongoing issues. I can relate. After a few months of "giving it some time to heal" I had no improvement in my pain. I had the same symptoms as you describe and the OS did say that I had a slight overhang of the acetabular cup that was most likely impinging my Iliopsoas (hip flexor) tendon. We went on to an injection into the tendon. That gave me relief for 2 weeks. Good news/bad news situation. Good news: diagnosis was correct; it was the tendon. Bad news: it most likely wasn't going to get better from what we had been doing. Revision or tendon release were the options offered. I went with the release and got the relief I was looking for and was finally able to get back to my activities.

I relate this to you since you say you have another follow up appointment at the end of the month. Perhaps this information will give you some things to talk over with your surgeon. Just know going in that the process can be slow to happen. with persistence and patience winning the day. You may get referred to other docs for these procedures which, of course, takes more time. I'm glad you don't have any trouble advocating for yourself because it will take some of that as well. What finally clenched the deal was that I expressed that I was still regularly in pain that I shouldn't have and I couldn't continue to live that way. After all, that is why I had the THR in the first place. You know your body and what feels "right." Believe in that and keep pressing until you are satisfied with the answers. I wish you all the best going forward. Keep us posted.

@Mr.fun Everything is still the same? What did your surgeon say at your follow-up appointment at the end of June?

Sorry you are having such a hard time if it @Mr.fun, definitely get a second opinion. i Can’t imagine how frustrating this is for you. I hope the surgeon offers to sort out asap, you can’t and shouldn’t have to go on like this, especially as they diagnosed heterotopic ossification. Good luck in resolving this.
