I am sure some of you remember me from posting a few months ago about my husbands experience with his TLHR. He is still not walking after 13 weeks going on 14. He is down to using a cane now which is good. He still has pain, has had a second opinion to no avail and it is just a waiting game at this point. The docs say everything looks normal, he just can't walk. His muscles are weak and sore and can't support his weight. We are hoping with time things will keep improving....and they are...just very slowly. I hope to report to you all someday that he is walking unassisted. It will be a happy day for us and will also give hope to those who are not where they want to be as soon as some others seem to be.

Hello, phenry - of course we remember you. Nice to see you again! I moved your post so it wouldn't get lost in that other thread.

I'm sorry your husband isn't doing so well. Remind me, was he this weak before the surgery? Is he doing any exercises to try and recover his body strength? It really seems that that's what needs to be done.

I'm glad to hear from you!!! I have been wondering how things were going. I know it must be frustrating for the both of you to have things go so slowly, but I'm happy to hear there is nothing wrong with the new hip itself. That tells me that hubby will get there eventually. Tell him we are all behind him 110% and not to give up. The only way to get those muscles back is to exercise them, then rest....exercise them, then rest.....and repeat again and again. Hard work, but you have each other and both of you are determined to make it work. It will!!! (((((HUGS))))) to you both!!!

I am sorry that he is not walking yet. Has he had physical therapy? What do the doctors say the cause of this is??

till 16 weeks that is almost for 4 months i did walk using a single cane..i use to have a lot of pain in one leg...but gradually it went fine...i think u can give it some time or get an xray done so that u will feel confident that nothing is wrong...the muscle pain do hurt....tc

Even my muscles were weak infact very weak becoz of three years of bilateral AVN .

Only time and physio can help you...

Thanks all...before surgery he walked with a limp because of arthritic pain from a hip injury (falling on it) about 2.5 years ago. He had some pain before surgery because it was bone on bone, but other than that, he was an active healthy 52 year old. Things do seem to be improving...just slow. He has had multiple xrays since the surgery and nothing out of the ordinary turns up. He is still doing physical therapy three times a week. He is up and moving a lot. He sometimes over does it possibly. I encourage him to do the PT exercises as I feel they work different muscles than what you normally use with just walking. We are optimistic that this will get easier as time goes on. He has just had a rough time of it! Thanks for all the support.
