Hi! Well Tuesday, June 9th is the big day. Blateral knee replacement. I am scheduled for the traditional kind.
I just wanted to know if anyone has heard of a new non-invasive procedure? I hear that their doing it in the Chicago area.

I have not heard of it. But how in the world could they replace a knee with out being invasive. Would be nice though.

Hi, Ed! So glad you have your surgery scheduled. I think what you're refering to is minimally invasive knee replacement instead of non-invasive. It is also sometimes referred to as "quad sparing" surgery. Most times the scar is smaller in this type of surgery. But, there is still all the same work done inside to replace the joint, so recovery many times is not significantly different.

Most larger cities have doctors doing this type of surgery. They sometimes have criteria a patient must meet to get it done (weight is an issue with some doctors).

Don't worry if the surgeon you chose doesn't do the minimally invasive surgery. You'll be just fine with the traditional approach. I had it and my knee is great.

Hi Ed. You will be so happy that you had this done...it will be over soon, then you will be on the road to true recovery....

Must say the title of this thread had me go
[Bonesmart.org] Non-invasive knee replacement
but then I realised what you really meant!

Good luck for the 9th Ed. Sending every good wish to you.

Loved the emoticon Jo.

Ed,
Good Luck with the surgery on the 9th! I had BTKR last 6/18, so my one year anniversary is coming up. I can do so much more today than prior to surgery. Stand in place, go for a walk, downhill ski, and more! You will do fine. The first couple of weeks are tough, but once you leave the rehabilitation hospital you will be walking fine. Keep us posted on your progress. You will love getting your life back!
Best,

Best of luck, ED, on the 9th. My BTKR was May 18 and every day gets better--I wish you the same!
Blessings,
Irene

Hi Ed. You will be happy when its done....Hope when you are feeling better after, you let us know how you are doing....Im sure you will be fine though. Happy thoughts when you go in to surgery.....Keep us posted......

As was said they still have to cut to get into the knee...I had it done in Chicago for my rtkr...small scar...big scar for my revision this Jan...both healed about the same time...they both were quad sparing...but you have to get in to get to the knee but wouldn't it be nice..
