When I had my LTHR back in April my leg was swollen for at least 6 weeks, especially around the knee and ankle. This time, I haven't had any swelling since about the two week mark. I wonder if this is because I can't put any weight on it at the moment (due to a small crack in my thigh bone during surgery) or if I'm just lucky. I've been putting lots of arnica on the leg (recommended by the physiotherapist) which has almost got rid of the bruising and I wonder if this has also helped get rid of the swelling.:thmb:

Has anyone else tried arnica - seems to work wonders. It can't be applied directly to the wound but works really well on any bruised or sore areas. I bought a 1lt bottle from the shopping channel QVC.

hi catwoman ive also heard of arnica for swelling and bruising ive never tried it but maybe ill grab a bottle from health store before i go in on tuesday can only try hey xxx

I'm just about a week out and have some swelling but only around the incision...nothing has traveled down my leg. I also have very minimal bruising. Every surgery is different and your body will react differently to each one so enjoy this being less than your other surgery!

Catwomen that is awesome. I was so swollen in both legs from having my right hip done it was incredible. I gained 25 pounds in water weight as a matter of fact. Most was gone in 3 weeks, but i think you certainly lucked out this time

After coming home from my first surgery, I had swelling that travelled down to my foot. After the second surgery, I didn't have that problem, just swelling around the top of the leg. I didn't have any bruising, which was a surprise as I bruise fairly easily.
When I came home from the hospital after the second surgery, the swelling was gone from my first leg, so it may have been caused by my being up and about quite a bit as I didn't have much discomfort. I had more pain with the second, so was laying down more.

Yes!! I've mentioned Arnica before! Its great for bruising and its ALL natural. Plant based!!! Way to go!!! (:)0)

I haven't been able to get on the scales but suspect I'm putting on weight as I've not been doing much exercise other than stretching and I keep getting the munchies :) I'll worry about that when I can put weight on my leg at 6 weeks.

I seem to have escaped most bruising and swelling. Bet it will catch up with me when I have the other one done. When I had the revitalizing done in March...whew...looked like a yellow/purple swollen ball of dough!
I would think the THR was a tougher surgery than putting pins in both hips. At least my new scar curves around my butt and ends at my old scar from March. Probably looks like a question mark. :)

Had a busy weekend with visitors on both days so didn't have my mid afternoon lay down. As a result my ankles have now started to swell slightly. Just goes to show that I need my afternoon naps. :)
