Hi, there is more information coming out of the National Joint Register - careful if you download the draft files they are quite big. Also note the additional information regarding surgeon profiles due next Tuesday.

    Public and patient guides
A huge thank you for all your thoughts, comments and corrections in regards to the hip and ankle public and patient guides. They have been incredibly useful and have helped in the drafting of the knee, elbow and shoulder editions too – we have certainly carried across changes where we could.
For the hip and knee versions, there was quite a bit of discussion on pages 10 and 11 of the guides where we can include information about hospitals that had worse than expected results for revision. Some felt is was confusing given its statistical nature, some felt it needed further explanation and some felt that perhaps it didn’t need to be included after all and detracted from the other good stuff in the guide. We have tried to take a balanced approach for this year however, in the future, it may be the case that we simply promote the new website service www.njrsurgeonhospitalprofile.org.uk as we will soon be including more up to date hospital results there.
The guides are quite big in terms of their file size so if you wanted to see take a look at the final draft editions, please do download a copy from the links below.

    · Hips
    · Knees
    · Ankles
    · Elbows
    · Shoulders

They are awaiting a final sign off by the Editorial Board next week (the group that oversees the production of the full NJR Annual Report) so expect to see them on the website soon.

More hospital information to be published at www.njrsurgeonhospitalprofile.org.uk on Tuesday 31 March

The NJR is pleased to announce that from today, additional hospital information can be found through its Surgeon and Hospital Profiles. The service, extending under NHS England’s transparency initiative, now offers patients the chance to look at hospital outcomes in greater depth, analysing results in comparison to the rest of the country.

The enhanced hospital information found online at www.njrsurgeonhospitalprofile.org.uk allows joint replacement patients and the public to see:
    • How a chosen hospital compares to national average rates for a range of patient improvement and outcome measures including revision
    • Overall characteristics of first-time hip/knee patients treated at the hospital and
    • An assessment of the quality of the data each hospital provides the NJR
