I had a total hip replacement just short of two weeks ago. Everything regarding the surgery and physical therapy is going great. However, after I got home from the hospital I began experiencing major night sweats. The doctor, visiting nurse and physical therapist are all at a loss to explain why. The only difference in my meds is that I am currently on a blood thinner but everyone says this would not cause the night sweats. Has anyone else experienced this? And does anyone know of a cause and/or cure?

Oh Yeah!
Keeping in mind that I'm post menopausal myself, I thought that my hormones were raging - or something like that. Turns out that it wasn't that - it was 'different' somehow. My guess is that the various meds were working their way out of my body. The sweats resolved after 2 weeks.
Hopefully you'll be past this point soon!

Thanks!!! I had wondered if this could be the cause but couldn't get a response from the professionals on this. That makes sense to me and I hope you are correct in that they should subside in a couple of weeks. I can live with that knowing there is an end in site.

Hmm - somewhere on this site there is a thread discussing this and one member found it was due to some analgesics she was taking. She stopped taking them and the sweats totally disappeared. Another member followed suit and reported exactly the same result! Have a search around, it's not that old so should be easy to find.

The doc thought they could have been caused by the pain meds but I had only taken 2 since coming home. If needed I was taking Tylenol. But thanks for the info....I'll try to locate the info you had suggested. The night sweats seem to be subsiding now. Perhaps it could have been from all of the meds given to me during and after surgery? Maybe my body was trying to get rid of all of the drugs in my system.
