I just had a tkr on June 23rd, 2008. It has been a long time coming. Had my first operation in Dec of 1967 when they just removed things and did not know how to repair them. Had the miniscus and acl removed from a basketball injury. Had it scoped around 2001 for a cleanup and they said I had the knee of a 90 year old. Did not know how I was walking much less with minimal pain. Well, I had to bite the bullet this year. I was suppose to be in the hospital till Thursday the 26th but since I was already up and moving around the hospital hallway with a walker they sent me home on Wednesday. Went to PT on Thursday and Friday. I am scheduled to do PT 3 times a week for 4 weeks. They checked my ROM today and said it was 87 degrees. I have had little to no pain since the surgery except for my visits to PT. Everyone keeps telling me I am ahead of the game and to just keep doing my exercises. They transitioned me from the walker to a cane today. I have been reading this blog for the last couple of days and from all I can see I am doing okay. Just like some though I want it all behind me and back to a normal life. In the 2 weeks since the surgery I have taken only 15 percocets and that is usually after a grueling visit to PT. I had my 2 week checkup with the doc yesterday and he took xrays and said everything looks great. He did recommend that I take a pill before PT to help relax and get more out of the session. I did that today and it did help. I guess I am rambling and will close for now. I have enjoyed reading how everyone is doing and coping with their issues. I hope to be able to get back into my bass boat in another 6 weeks. I am suppose to return to work in another 6 weeks also. Will have to wait and see if things continue to progress as they have been. I have also lost 17 pounds and my wife said she intends on keeping that off of me and then some. She has been great. Glad she is a teacher and is off for the summer. I don't know how people do this without someone there for them. Will be around to see how things continue to go with everyone.
