Revision THR Newbie tkr recovery thread<

Sorry your day began by waking in pain. :console2:
Hopefully you're feeling better as the day is progressing. Watching the sunrise in Charleston does sound beautiful. I've never been, but it's been on my bucket list...maybe one day hubs and I will make our way. Savannah also. Two cities that always come to mind when I think about that part of the country.

Give it another week or two and I'll bet you're feeling remarkably better. Doesn't help now...but keep your eye on the prize. We're here for you.

Wishing you a lovely Saturday and beautiful Easter Sunday!
@Newbie tkr

Hi everyone: Just a quick check-in...I hope you all are well.
My recovery has been a nightmare since about last Thursday. Ran short (again) on my pills b/c of my continuing to hyper-venilate and would hate to go into another panic attack. My PT comes by Friday morning and sees that I'm short- reports to doctor's office and I had enough pills left through Saturday night.
Sunday and yesterday cried non-stop b/c of pain and hyper-ventilating 24 hours- and pain 22 days post-op.
Went to ER today and they gave me pain meds but you have to take them there. Cannot write scripts or let you leave hospital with them.
Question: if my doctor discharges me tomorrow does he have a legal obligation to write me a script until I find pain management specialist?
I am not an addict and barely drink...I think it's just one too many joint surgeries (4) and this PTSD thing.

Sorry to hear this @Newbie tkr . Unfortunately I'm not familiar enough with this to help. I'm sure someone will be posting to you soon with some possible guidance so you can work through this. :console2:

Hi @Newbie tkr
I'm so sorry you're struggling and suffering pain. I really can't answer your question as I'm unfamiliar but possibly our Forum Administrator @Jamie may be able to advise. I've tagged her for you.
Wishing you the comfort you need. :console2:

@Newbie tkr .... I'm so sorry you are going through these problems. I think you need to insist that your surgeon not discharge you as your pain levels are not stabilized. It hasn't even been a month yet since your surgery. Normally you aren't discharged for about 6 weeks. If you're having difficulty getting help with your pain, you can contact your GP. There are many options and something like a combination of Tramadol and Tylenol might work for you if they won't renew your current prescription.

Be sure and use plenty of ice when you're experiencing pain like this. As long as you keep the ice source wrapped in a kitchen towel, you can pretty much ice non-stop if needed. I'm glad you went on to the ER today. It really sets you back to be in such serious pain. It will take some time to get that calmed down once you do get some sort of pain medication.

You didn't mention that you were taking Tylenol today when you were hurting so. Were you? You know you can take 1000mg every 6 hours for a total of 4000mg in any 24 hour period. You just need to be sure you count all products (like cold and sinus or allergy medicine) that you might also take that has acetaminophen in it in that 4000mg total.

My doctor's office called this morning. He is out of town but they wrote another script for me (Percocet 10/325- 1 every four hours). I cannot get it filled until Friday. The script is for 3 days only, Friday, Saturday, Sunday and I have an appt. with him on Tuesday of next week.
So, two days with no pain meds, haha, I've got plenty of Klonipan for my PTSD and lots of ACETAMETIPHEN until Friday.
My sister arrived from Pennsylvania yesterday. My family is concerned for me cause they've never seen me like this before.
I love you all for being there for me. Not used to having people there for me...

@Newbie tkr I am so happy to hear that your sister is with you now. It might help ease your mind somewhat away from the pain and meds. It's always good to have support and you know we're here for you, but to have your sister physically with you is a blessing for sure. Keep us posted and try to rest when you can.

I will. Thanks to all who support me here- I've given nothing back to BS but will when I'm feeling better.
My PT came by this morning- says we need to "fast track" a little on rehab now b/c of my earlier setbacks...she wants me on a cane as soon as possible. She's an outstanding PT but I don't know about this "fast track" thing.
Also, my script for pain meds will be obtained tomorrow morning, Friday, (1 Percocet-10/325 every 4 hours) but lasting only through Sunday cause my OS is out of town until Monday. So Monday i'm supposed to pick up another script for JUST MONDAY MEDS as I have an appt. with my OS on Tuesday. My PT says just try to skip the Monday pain meds all together and make the script for Friday, Saturday, Sunday LAST through Monday too and not use Monday's script at all. I don't know what to do b/c of my PTSD thing potentially rearing it's ugly head again...what do you all think?

Don't try to skip meds if you need them. If you are comfortable missing a dose, say in the afternoon, or spreading them out to 5-6 hours, that's fine. But if you are in pain, you'll be playing catch up with your meds. Just my thoughts. The doctor's office has a plan. You should feel comfortable with that.

Maybe you can ask about substituting maximum dose of Tylenol in the day at least, as you get further along.
Are you still in alot of pain?
Hoping all will be easing soon so you won't have to need the meds as much.
Healing mojo coming your way !

I hope you get the pain under control so you're more comfortable.
It's good to hear your sister is there for you, hopefully you can get some help and well needed
rest while she's there. Don't worry about giving back to BoneSmart right now. There are times to give and times to receive what you need. Know we're here for you.
Wishing you comfort and a relaxing weekend!

Hi everyone: Mono, Kayla, SE Florida, CarrieMay60 and Sarah B.
I just want to say THANKYOU, THANKYOU for all the support and advice and encouragement you've given me these past few weeks.
I couldn't have made it this far without you.
I'm "checking out" for a few days...am realizing that so much of my time has been spent reading articles on hip revision, talking to people about my surgery, dealing with medical personnel and yes, BS too, all at the expense of allowing my self to think and begin planning new things to look forward to. In other words, I'm thoroughly bored right now with focusing on the subject of my hip revision (probably a good sign). Things seem to be settling down now so I'm taking a break from it all-
I would like to check in within a couple of weeks Just to say hi.
Eternally grateful for you all, my guardian angels...please know that, even though I've been too self-centered to know all about YOUR stories, I continue to pray and remain so grateful for each of you. Everyday. God bless you all, and may others, going through what we all have gone through, be divinely fortunate enough to find you here for their own travel along this road to recovery.
Love, Diana
