Hi all
Im new here! I have been reading a few posts and I am thankful for all the other stories. It makes me feel what Im going through is more normal. Im a 27yr old female that had a THR 2 weeks ago today. Wow I cant believe its only been 2 weeks. It seems like forever! Im doing pretty good I think. I dont have insurence so I have to do all my PT with my husband. So it was great to get on here and see other people having the same problems as I am. But what compelled me to post was ...... When do I get to take these white socks off?! My dr said six weeks...... has everyone really worn theres six whole weeks. I think Im going crazy. Im pretty active I think. Like I said I dont have anyone to compare to. But I walk my 2000 feet a day and do PT twice a day. Not including taking care of my 4 yr old daughter :) So I would love to hear from you all! Thanks!

Hi there, Would be interesting to hear from Josephine. I only wore them a couple days when I went to subacute rehab -- Came =home 8 days after surgery and did not wear them at home at all. Had no problems. I only had the Lovanox (sp??) shot for 9 days, a baby aspirin a day for 6 wks. Fortunately, had no clot problems.

welcome Heidi

I did not ever get those wonderful socks (really glad too). The standard advice would be to follow your doc's orders. They are all so different. I am glad you seem to be doing ok. Not everyone is sent to formal pt after a hip replacement so if you keep exercising you should be fine.
Did they show you exercises in the hospital?

It has been about 4 months since mine and my wish is that other parts could be replaced and go so smoothly!!

Welcome again
Judy

Thanks for posting. Its always great to get feed back :)
Judy- yes they did show me all kinds of exercises, I was in the hospital for 3 days and I had a great PT. I cant wait to get to the piont where I dont regret doing this :) I know the day will come. I go to the Dr in the morning to remove my staples....... Im just a little scared!

Well, different surgeons have different ideas about what's good and what's not! I'd sooner go along with what your surgeon has said he prefers as he may know something about your op and treatment that makes it necessary. Always better safe than sorry!

Hello Heidi,

I Sympathise about the socks/stockings - I too have been instructed to wear the tight, uncomfortable things for six weeks, luckily, only one week to go! I did some research in the medical journals and it seems they do reduce the clot risks. I am on asprin as well. At the hospital I went to they were Very insistent on the importance of wearing them.

My sister has her hip operation the same time as mine, (in Australia, I am In New Zealand) but she is not on asprin and is stocking free! She did have a minimally invasive approach though.

In the scheme of things it is a small inconvienience :)

All the best for your recovery,
Monica

Heidi,

Welcome! This site is awesome.

My visiting nurse advised me to take my pain meds about an hour before I had my staples removed. I didn't have stockings, so no words of wisdom from me there.
Re PT: If you have a mirror and/or someone to watch your form, you should be ok. In fact, keeping up with your 4-yr. old is probably the best PT you could have. Most of my motivation for having mine was to be able to play with my 2- yr. old niece.

I admire you for having the surgery at your age. Hope your recovery is fast.

Joyce

TED hose full time for 2 weeks, daytime only for 1 more week. My home-care nurse said they are mainly for inactive people and so maybe all your activities might preclude the whole 6 weeks.
