Hello everyone,

I had my left hip replaced 4 months ago. 4 weeks ago I began walking 2 miles a day, 6 days a week (I built up to it slowly)...the groin pain that was gone has returned, sometimes it hurts so bad I can barely lift my leg (something that I was doing with the greatest of ease) physical therapy ended in June...

This is my thrid joint replacement, I had my right hip done 13 years ago, and I had my left knee done 4 years ago.

I don't remember this nagging pain from that other hip replacement, perhaps it was so long ago that I forgot...

any ideas?

Can you give me some more details, meeyra? How old are you know? When did you have your various THRs done and why the revisions? Have you talked with your doctor or OS about it?

My first take on it is that your might have pulled a muscle or something.

Hi Josephine,

Thank you for your reply.

I'm 47, I had my first total hip done when I was 33 on my right hip, no revision on it yet, though we will be discussing it. Just had my left hip replaced in March, had my left knee replaced 4 years ago.

I see my doctor the end of this month.

I don't know how I would have pulled a muscle but I'm sure anything is possible. I walk 2 miles 6 days a week and I take my time doing it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated...

Thanks!

Oh my! You have been through the mill. Bionic woman!

There are various muscles used in walking and other such activities that can become inflamed as you can see from this diagram. The adductors are the principle culprits and are the major players when you lift your leg. Also the psoas. Some anti-inflammatories like ibuprofen might help, or some advice/treatment from a chiropractor or osteopath. It has been spoken of in here before.

thanks so much for the prompt reply. I did get some naprosin from my doctor, I'm waiting to see if it will work. Lifting my leg has become such an issue, it never was before so clearly I've got things all inflamed!

Thanks again!

Hi,

Well the pain got so bad, I could barely move, so I had xrays taken. Xrays show nothing is wrong...doctor said I'm over doing to and to back off my walking so I am....I see my doctor in 2 weeks...

Just wanted to let you know what was going on.

Thanks for the help!

Yes, that's usually the case! Hope it settles down soon for you.

Jo,
Thanks again for the diagram. My adductors are still weak & Yee-OW-chy, 5 weeks (today, I just realized!) post-THR. PT is definitely helping, just not fast enough for me! ;)
