Uh-oh.....I'm the Night Stalker again. My hubbie came to bed about 30 minutes ago at 3 a.m. after watching a WWII movie he hadn't seen before (he's crazy for those movies!). I was awake kind of because my back was hurting like it does if I stay in bed for a long time sometimes. We had a little chat and he fessed up that his back hurts also. He had lower back surgery in November 2006. Duhh....just like a guy. He knew my back was bothering me. His hurt too. But he didn't SAY anything!!! I decided that was it. We are going out to look for a new mattress tomorrow. I think the one we have was new back in the early 1990's..... I feel pretty certain that this will help. I get relief by coming out to sleep on the couch which is MUCH softer than our old, hard, "good for the back" (that was how the firm ones were advertised back then) mattress on our bed.

So...it's off the the couch and a heating pad. Hope everyone ELSE is having sweet dreams tonight! ...Jamie

Sorry you are up again Jamie. We had that problem a few years ago. We bought a pillow top mattress, not the hardest sort as I have slept in many hard beds others say are great and tossed and turned and woken up in agony. It is the most comfy bed ever.

I have a couple of back problems, sponidolthesesis, and degenerative disc disease. I can't take sitting in a straight up chair either, it's better if I have one that slopes back. That's how I drive too. Those orthpeadic back things kill my back. I am not supposed to arch my back either.

Anyway, sorry for rambling, waiting for my pills to cut in again so I can get another couple of hours sleep. Hope you get some more sleep soon. (((((SLEEP HUGS)))))) Sue

Thanks for the sleep hugs. I did go right to sleep on the couch with a heating pad on my back. Slept flat on my back until now and it felt great. Then.....pain meds wore off. Geeze....if it's not ONE thing, it's ANOTHER!!! So, I'm up for a few minutes to get those down and then back to the couch. There are big mattress sales on now here in Kansas City and I plan to look at the pillowtop ones and the Sleep Number Bed and Temprapedic matress also. Anyone have experience with those last two (very expensive) mattresses? I wonder if they are really as good as all the advertising hype and worth the expense.

The new mattress came today. I decided to take a nap and was OUT for THREE hours!!! It was pure heaven. If any of you are sleeping on an older mattress (ours was about 12 years old) and having trouble sleeping or muscle pains, I HIGHLY recommend that you think about purchasing one of the newer mattresses that provides soft support for all parts of your body. I really think this is going to make a difference. For the first time in ages, I awoke feeling refreshed. In fact, I noticed that this mattress even provided complete cushion for my WHOLE leg....the thigh, up behind the knee, calf and ankle....when I was on my back. Amazing. Okay....I'll step down off my soap box now.

Nice when it works out well and as we hope. Enjoy! sweet dreams.

So pleased you chose the right one for you Jamie. We couldn't believe how much better we felt in the mornings after we changed to a pillow top. No more backaches:)

Sleep well tonight zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We got a pillow top Simmons a couple of years ago. i love it. My daughter has her dad wake her up when he leaves in the morning and she comes in to sleep with me... even if only for 30 minutes, due to the comfort. Now she's saving her money to buy her own! They are so comfy. I love it! Except that it is so high when we put it on our new bed... it is like at my waist level (I'm short but not THAT short). I have to climb into it.

We are dealing with the high mattress problem too. I am only 5'3'', so it's a hike for me to get up there. When I sit on the side of the bed, my feet don't touch. It's like being the last person in the ladies restroom and getting the handicap stall...ugh! I guess we'll get used to it. There is always a foot stool, I guess. I'm glad our doggie is so old she doesn't get on the bed anymore. There is no way she could jump that high - even when she was a young pup!

That happend when we got ours, I couldn't reach the floor with my feet and I didn't want to have to land hard with my knees the way they were. So Kevin managed to lower the rail of the bed, and it is fine now.

I have to literally climb into bed. When i sit on the edge of the bed, my feet are about a foot off the ground! I fell out once - before the TKR, so i'm very careful now. It was a long fall and scared my husband... only a few bruises, including my ego. And it is hard to get my favorite sheets (washable silk) to cover the mattress. needs to be like 17 inches or something deep.

We're stuck with our Hollywood bed frame that doesn't adjust. But I think it will be okay. We just have to get used to something new. I can kind of scootch off the edge and it's all right. Glad you got it worked out for you. The better rest is definitely worth ANY adjustment that is going to have to be made.

That is so true Jamie. My friend has a really high bed, she bought a special wooden step for each side.

It won't hurt your knees to hop down gently. our bed isn't adjustable either. It's an old sleigh bed. If you need help getting up, you can get one of the step stools you'd use in like the kitchen or something. Make sure it has a handle and is not going to tip over easily. You don't want to pull a Doug.

Nope.....I can't IMAGINE falling on my new knee. I think if that ever happens I will go into shock.

I know! I was amazed he lived to tell the story. i would have been in bed crying in pain and scared to death that i'd cracked my kneecap. I would milk it for days, I'm sure. I'm such a princess.

Me too, me too!!! Maybe he's just not telling us that he did all those things....the macho thing, doncha know. 'Course he had to be tough for his son, but once home and back in the bedroom all alone.......we can just imagine!

You all are asking for it again aren't you...I go to sleep for one hour and look at ya.
No x-rays for now. It is sore tonight. No new clicks or clunks. I'm kind of at a point that if I did something, I don't really want to know..
My son said tonight that was the first time he had ever seen me fall..It is outside of the new kneecap that took the hit...
guess we'll just have to see.
