Hello! About 1 week out with my new knee. Aside from pain control, having lots of trouble keeping the Total leg ACE wrap my surgeon requires of all new knee to stay up where in should on my fleshy thigh V-shaped legs Any helpful hints on what wrapping type to use and how to wrap so it stays up?
Thanks! Karen

I had the same issue on both my legs. And my OS did not use any adhesive bandages so when the ace and compression wrap fell, it left my incision exposed. Eventually I got the home nurse to provide an adhesive (island) dressing.

What I eventually did that helped keep the compression bandage up was to wrap a ling ace bandage on top of it and use those metal clips to secure it. I helped stay the longest but I usually find the wraps to fall over night or when I got up.

It was a nuisance for me as well.

:welome: to BoneSmart.

Can't help you with the ACE wraps I'm afraid, I had nothing like that with mine. But I can leave our general guidelines for your perusal.

Knee Recovery: The Guidelines
1. Don’t worry: Your body will heal all by itself. Relax, let it, don't try and hurry it, don’t worry about any symptoms now; they are almost certainly temporary
2. Control discomfort:
rest
ice
take your pain meds by prescription schedule (not when pain starts!)

3. Do what you want to do BUT
a. If it hurts, don't do it and don't allow anyone - especially a physical therapist - to do it to you
b. If your leg swells more or gets stiffer in the 24 hours after doing it, don't do it again.

4. PT or exercise can be useful BUT take note of these

5. Here is a week-by-week guide for Activity progression for TKRs
6. Access these pages on the website

The Recovery articles:
The importance of managing pain after a TKR and the pain chart
Swollen and stiff knee: what causes it?

Healing: how long does it take?

Thanks, Jeff! I’ve already had to redraw this three times a day. My ortho guy specifically said NO Adhesives! I feel the tight ace above my knee which rolls and cuts into the already sore thigh is just plain irritating and can’t be good for the swelling. The wrap does feel go until it slips, bunches, and then squeezes. I’ll try your tip

Hello @Kck1 - How are you getting on?

Please will you tell us the full date of your knee replacement, whether you had a TKR or a PKR, and which knee it is, so we can make a signature for you? Thank you.
