Hi, Im 55 years old and 2&1/2 weeks out from RTKR surgery. I live in new zealand. I was laying on my bed today with the internal critic telling me how I "should" be much better by now and how I must be 'weak' feeling the level of pain I am and how the PT I am seeing on Tueday (3weeks out) will be horrified that I am not even able to do a 90% bend at the knee (maybe able to do 45%).
I was only given panadol and codiene 30mg for pain relief when I came home. the codiene 6hrly and panadol 4 hrly.
I had dome m eslon SR 30mg (Morphine) in my cupboard from another time, and have had to use that on occassion since I was discharged from hospital.
Today I went looking and found this forum and started reading other peoples experiences. The internal critic is silenced and I am celebrating the jewel which I found today in this forum.
Thanks you all
Budafli

Jewel! Hmmm - that's a new one!

And Budafli - I howled when I saw that! Very cute, very innovative. Just love what people think up for usernames.

Glad you found us. We have but three credos on here ...

1. no such thing as a daft question
2. keep taking the tablets
3. ice, ice, ice, elevate, elevate, elevate and rest, rest, rest!

Welcome Budafli. I, too, found the forum prior to my surgery and they have been a wonderful source of help and inspiration throughout the ordeal of having both knees replaced at the same time. I am a 67 year old woman and live in the States, Southern Arizona. Like Jo said there are no stupid questions and of course our mantra, Ice, Elevate and Rest. I would like to add take sufficient amounts of pain meds to be able to get through the whole thing with as little pain as possible but I realize there are still a lot folks who worry about addiction. I just think you do better when you feel better. I was shocked you weren't given something more powerful for your pain. You are in the early stages yet and will need pain meds for a while I would imagine. Some folks feel they need to tough it out but as you guessed I am not one of them. Again, welcome and will look forward to reading more of your posts. Rowdy
