It's FINALLY here!!!

Locator.JPG

We are pleased to announce a new tool to help you find the right surgeon for your needs. Our new Joint Surgeon Locator is unlike any other locator out there because it can identify specific things you've told us you want to know about orthopedic surgeons - their specialties, whether they perform bi-lateral surgery, do they work with younger patients, and much more. We are just beginning to sign up surgeons for a paid subscription where these items will be provided in their profile, so it will take some time to get this in place. But we believe in the next year as our tool matures to where we want it to be, you'll agree that it is very helpful for BoneSmarties who need to locate a trusted surgeon with specific skills.

Our launch is just in its infancy, so we still have a lot of work to do to make it fully functional. But it is ready now for you to review and use.

To access the Joint Surgeon Locator, just click on this link (it may take a little time to load, so be patient), type in your zip code and search.

We have pre-loaded the database with more than 7,000 orthopedic surgeons and are continuing to add more each week. If you don't see your surgeon's name listed, you can submit his or her name so we can get them added. Just send an email to [email protected] with the following information:

* Surgeon's full name
* Clinic address and telephone number
* Surgeon's email address (if known)

WE NEED YOUR HELP! Please take some time to find any surgeons you have seen in our new locator and give them a rating. This will help us and those BoneSmarties who follow you in surgery to know your experience with the doctor.

A follow-on note: At present the Joint Surgeon Locator will only serve our members in the USA. Once it is fully operational (probably at least a year from now), we do plan to extend the Locator first to the UK and then on to Canada and Australia.

To access the Joint Surgeon Locator, just click on the tab at the top of the page, type in your zip code and search.”

Can’t seem to find the “tab.”
I only visit Bone Smart on my phone.
Can it be viewed on computers only?
Trying to see OR joint surgeons.

It won't be on the app, if that's what you're using. Try going into BoneSmart using your phone's browser.

I just checked and the link is there if you use your browser to access BoneSmart. Type in bonesmart.org. You'll find the Surgeon Locator link under the Resources listing on the main screen.

It takes a few seconds for the Surgeon Locator page to load, so be prepared for that.

Is the tab just wording with a link? I’m on a web browser on my phone and the blue/linked heading just takes me back to the original page. Could you please screenshot and circle what you are calling the tab??

Thanks

Things can be quite different on your phone than what you'd see on a desktop or laptop. Here is the screen as it would appear on a computer. I've circled the Surgeon Locator link:

If you are using a smart phone, you'll need to be sure you're accessing BoneSmart using your browser and not the BoneSmart app. Go to the BoneSmart website (bonesmart.org) and you should see a screen like the image below. Click on the RESOURCES link and then on the SURGEON LOCATOR as shown below.

Do these
Orthopaedic surgeons subscribe to the BoneSmart way of post op care?

Some do and some don't. We don't make that a requirement for a surgeon to be listed on our locator. There are approximately 25,000 orthopedic surgeons in the USA. We have initially populated our Locator database with about 7,000 doctors and we're adding more as fast as we can get names, addresses and phone numbers.

Putting together a meaningful Locator tool will take some time and this rollout is just the start. During the coming year we will be adding names and hopefully getting surgeons to understand the benefit of our Locator over the other tools that are out there. Part of this value will come from the fact that we want surgeons to tell us more information about how they practice - things like:

* Do you perform bi-lateral surgery?
* Do you work with younger patients?
* How many of each type of surgery do you perform each year?
* Do you do revisions?
* Do you have experience with infections?
* What is the highest BMI you will accept?
* What is your recovery protocol for activity and therapy?

So, for now in these beginning stage of the Joint Surgeon Locator, you will need to use it as a tool to find surgeon names near you so that you can research them on Google. I can help you with that if you find some doctors you think look good - I'll be happy to take a look at them for you.

Later, all that vital information should be resident in the Locator itself....no research on your part required. But it's going to take us some time to get to that point.

I tried to click on the Surgeon locator tab and it seems to log me out and then when I log back in it goes to the main website. I’m on my browser but on an IPad if that matters. I’ll log back in later and try.

@Cjackson21 ... I checked with my iPhone just now and was able to access the Joint Surgeon Locator just fine. The screen you'll see to access it is slightly different than what is shown in the post above (we made a minor change so you didn't have to go through extra steps to get to the Locator link), but it should work for you. If you still experience problems, do you have another device or computer to try it on?

I tried to submit my Dr's information via the email but when I tried to send it I got an error message in my email saying it was not a valid address.

@Grammy57 .... please send me your surgeon's information at [email protected] and I'll take care of getting it added to the Locator.

My surgeon is not in the list May I add him with my review of his work in my knee?

@Texasaaa just follow Jamie's instructions (copied below) to get your surgeon added to the locator.

If you don't see your surgeon's name listed, you can submit his or her name so we can get them added. Just send an email to [email protected] with the following information:

* Surgeon's full name
* Clinic address and telephone number
* Surgeon's email address (if known)

Do I just call and find out where their BMI limit is or is there someplace onsite that tells me?

Looking forward to your help.

@travelgal Welcome to BoneSmart! Please call any surgeon you are interested in and ask the question about BMI. Not all surgeons have this restriction by the way.

I don't think my surgeon is a part of your group. My surgery was done by DR Stephen Bogosian, Syracuse Orthopedic Specialists. Surgery/SOS. Anterior Approach but with limits. But the help your site has given me in my recovery is far more than the practice, thank you.
