My 79 year old father suffers from significant peripheral neuropathy. He "shuffle" walks. He has been told he needs a hip replacement and is scheduled for one October 26. My concern is the neuropathy and doing what he needs to do for recovery. He just does not have a lot of strength. He seems to think my 77 year old mother will be able to take care of him. What should we expect?

I think he might do better than you think as the biggest problems often come from people who try to do too much!! He is not going to be in danger of doing that.

However, I think expecting your mother to look after him might be a bit much. Depends upon her stated of health and general abilities, of course and maybe she's looking after him quite a bit anyway she may well be able to cope.
