I have had rheumatoid arthritis for the past 15 years and the disease has taken it's toll on my hips and knees. I've also been very overweight for most of my life - twice up to almost 400 pounds. In the past few years I have lost almost 200 pounds - weighing 190 today. I'm still losing weight and have been working with a personal trainer for the past 11 months - doing strength training three days a week and cardio six days a week. About 8 months ago I started having trouble with my right hip and now walk with quite a gait. I've been to many doctors who tell me that hip replacement is necessary. I've also been to two orthopedic surgeons who tell me that I'm looking at multiple joint replacements, but are leary about doing them because of the disease in the hips. Has anyone had any experience with any of these situations? Does anyone have recommendations of an Av-Med orthopedic surgeon in Miami, Florida? Thanks for your help.
