I FINALLY had my consultation with my second OS and I am SO glad I found this guy. He said I might be a good candidate for a partial replacement rather than a total - my first OS (who has been seeing me for two years) has NEVER even mentioned this posibility! My new surgeon says that he will go in and if I have too much damage then he will go ahead and do the TKR at at that time. He warned me that PKRs do not last - they just buy some time - maybe 10-12 years. For those of you with partials, are you happy that you went that route? Have some of you had the partial and then on to the total? Does a partial eliminate the arthritic pain? I have one side full of diseased cartilege and that's where the bones are rubbing and causing me pain when walking beyond about a half a block or even sitting too long. If I abuse it, I pay for it for several days afterwards. He was happy that I had good ROM and that I had been walking up my stairs twice a day! Surgery is scheduled for August 12.

Hi....

I wish you luck with your up comming surgery. I can not tell you about a partial knee, I had a total knee on 11/27/07. I am loving life once again. Here is to your recovery and living life once again pain free!

My KR is partial (medial). I had it on December 21st. I had the same deal with my surgeon--- hopefully PKR but TKR if the damage was too bad and I got lucky. As for the warning that PKRs "don't last"--- I will gladly take 10-15 years but no one really knows how long any of these replacements will last for us younger active folks with the new technologies.
My medial OA pain was gone from the first step I took on my new knee. Yes, you have to recover from the surgery but it is not the same pain and you know it will get better with time and hard work.
Work hard to be in good shape before you go in for your surgery. You will never be sorry for that. Good ROM and strong quads will help a lot and make your recovery faster.

Good luck!

I was hoping you'd answer, Beach - I've read some of your posts and realized that you'd had a partial. How do you feel after 5 months? 5 weeks?
