Just thought I would post an update as to my progress since my RTKR. I am total off pain meds, sometimes I feel like maybe I could use some but I hate the way they make me feel. My range of motion gets better day by day about 110 at this point. I am back in the office a couple of hours each day and I am sleeping fairly good about 6-7 hrs a night. I talked to my OS yesterday and he had givin me the OK to travel to Spokane next week about a 1 1/2 hr flight from Denver where I will be teaching a 2 day OSHA class for one of my clients.

While I still have some stiffness and swelling my knee feels great all of the pain that was there before the surgery is totaly gone and I can tell allready that this was the right decision.

That's terific Mike. It only gets better and better. Won't it be a wonderful spring/Summer without that pain!?

Glad to hear you are doing so well Mike. You might want to try some Ibuprophen as needed. I, too, was off the heavy duty drugs soon after my surgery. You will be back on the bike in no time.
Cheers, Ross

Great news, Mike!!! I never tire of reading posts from people who are at that point in recovery where they KNOW the surgery was the right choice! It only gets "betterer" and "betterer!"

Wow! This is exactly the kind of thing I need to read right now (my TKR was one week ago today). Congratulations Mike!

That news is great to hear from me also. Mag, I think you and I are close with when we had our surgeries. I am 9 days today.
I have heard that once the staples are out, which for me is 19th, movement is a little easier.

It makes a HUGE difference to have the staples out. In may case, the doc wouldn't allow a shower until that time, so that was a big deal. But even if you are allowed to shower and feel somewhat human, the "pull" on your incision is much less once the staples are history.

Actually, my surgeon said that he thinks there's better stretch with staples as opposed to stitches. I have been allowed to shower since Day 3 in the hospital. They put on a waterproof bandage first (until they ran out). The staples are coming out on Jan 20 and I'll be very happy because they catch on things inside my pants and feel like little pinpricks. I've run out of the bandages they gave me, which I don't need but like to use to avoid the pinpricks. They do seem to get cold when I ice and it's quite uncomfortable.

Jamie, I'm really glad to hear that something's going to feel better soon.
