When UK NHS patients have a hip or knee operation they are asked if they wish to give their consent for the details to be entered into the NJR, a Department of Health body which collects information on all hip and knee replacement operations in order to monitor the performance of replacement hip and knee joints in the UK (www.njrcentre.org.uk).
I am not sure what type of TKR joint I had, but believe I was told prior to my operation that it would be a Genesis. I therefore decided to ask the NJR for this information and had an instant e-mail reply attaching a Patient Request Form to complete and send.
The form is fairly simple and I am not sure how much information is given but there is a box which states 'If there is any specific information you would like to acquire regarding your operation please complete the box below'.
Also I do not know if there is any charge for information, as a section for Office Use asks the Data Quality Manager to give an estimation of work involved. I could not find anywhere on the NJR website where the form could be downloaded so it seems it has to be requested.
