Sept 2, 2023 Post Op Day 12

Sleep- Sleep has continued about the same. I rest fairly well early in the evening, wake at middle of the night for about an hour or so and then back to sleep until about 6 or 7. I have been able to sleep on my non-op side a few times in the past few days with pillow between my legs which has helped because it is a welcome change in position.

Pain/Numbness- Pain has gotten better since my last post. I added a flat ice pack behind my knee and it reduced the swelling there which eased the pain not only behind my knee but also along with ice in hip area reduced the sciatic pain that was bothering me in my hip.

Appetite- Appetite is still low but it is getting better slowly. Regularity is getting better.

Post op appt went really good. They did an xray and had me straighten and bend for them. They were really pleased and gave me an A+ for the visit. I get my staples out on the 14th. I have 23 total. After the appt, hubby and I went to Walmart and I used the riding cart but did ok. In fact, went back today to get a few things we forgot. The worst thing is I am just really tired when I get home. Other than that, no worse for the wear after 2 outings this week.

Today I got brave and took my first shower. It felt Amazing!! We just had our bathroom remodeled recently and my shower has a corner bench and a grab bar. Not only do I feel safer but with the energy drain, it was easier to be able to sit down and get my shower. I am tired for sure now but feel so much better. Hope everyone is having a good day today.

Perfect! It's understandable how much safer you'll feel with this new bathroom remodel.

I don't think anyone forgets how wonderful that first post op shower feels. I hope you have a good week, mystikfairy, and find your stamina slowing increasing. Happy Tuesday!

Sept 7, 2023 Post Op Day 17

I went today to get my staples removed. That went ok, normal amount of sting and burn as expected, 23 in total. Now have steri strips per my request. My doctor didn't mention them so I asked for them and I am wearing a dressing for 3-4 days to give the holes from the staples time to close.

I could tell it gave me more bend and it wasn't as uncomfortable. When my PT came yesterday I was at 3 straighten and 80 on flexion. I have a feeling it is even better today. I am icing to be sure it doesn't swell after that being done today. I have been able to walk around the house with my cane and take normal steps and even walked a bit without my cane which felt really good. Didn't want to overdo so only did that just for a few minutes.

I know it's not good to compare surgeries because they can be so different. I will have to say some of the changes in how pain is controlled such as taking celebrex and having the adductor nerve block made a big difference this time around. Even my husband has made comments that he can tell I am not having the pain I had with my first one. I took pain med on the way to the doctor this morning at 8:15 and even though my alarm went off I did not take anything until 5:20pm, 9 hours later. Feels good to not need the medication as often.

Praying that everyone is having a good day.

I love to read about your improvements!

A great update!!!!

I found out what my implant is if someone can update my signature. I have 3 different makers total. This knee is a Stryker Triathalon. My other knee is a Dupuy along with my right hip. My left hip is a Zimmer Biomet. I am really mixed up lol. Also how do I update my bio, it is a tad outdated.

I see people mention how you can go back and compare but all I see on mine is my 2 hips, don't see first knee.

It looks like this is your recovery thread from your first knee:

Here’s a list of all your threads:

@Jockette If you could add my knee link where my other 2 are that would be amazing. Thanks so much for finding it for me.

We can't link those threads together. They are preop and recovery shoulder, and hip. Each of these are different forums. This is your only knee recovery thread, and it is exactly the way it should be!

I didn't mean to link them. If you will look at my signature page, both hips there is a link to tap to get to both hip recoveries and I would just like the link for my knees put there as well so when I click it, I can go to them just like I can with the hips. It is under my about on my profile. I took a picture so you can see what I am referring to.

I figured out what you meant and I added the links to those recovery threads to your signature for you.

The left picture was my knee right after staples were removed. I think I am going to be pumpkin colored for a while cause the betadine they cleaned with before surgery is in no hurry to go away. I looked back at my first knee and my surgeon then and his team were a lot neater with the staples. The left one ending in 651 is my current knee and the right one was the left one from 2014.

I had to ask for help, but I was able to tweak your signature a bit more so there’s less wording and it looks neater, but your links are still clickable. Enjoy!

@Jockette. There is a problem with it. When I clicked the links, both left and right hips are for the same hip in 2017. My right hip was from Feb 2014, left hip was Sept, 2017. So it will need a bit more tweaking to get it right. Need the right hip from Feb 2014 brought back.
