Re: Hi am new here n i need hlp. Have to do a hip replacement surgery am so scared.

Welcome, Nan! Sounds like a great time to be icing and elevating!!! :)

Hi, Nan. Welcome to BoneSmart. I have moved your post to its own thread so that it can more easily be seen and responded to by other members. Hope you are taking your pain meds on schedule as well as icing and elevating your leg. That will help with the swelling. Please post any time....we're here to support you!

Hi Nan, Welcome...I sure hope you start feeling better soon. I will keep you in my prayers O.K. ! It will get better though. Please ask questions anytime. We are all here for you . You take care of yourself. !!!........................Kim

Use ice after every PT event and when you walk for any amount of time, that will help reduce the swelling. I invested in a good cold pack and it was well worth the little bit of investment.

Walmart Cold Pad for $25

Hi Nan
I had a lot of swelling after my op also. I raised the mattress on my bed at the foot end so every time I lay down my feet were elevated - the swelling eased considerably, especially overnight. And I agree with all the 'ice' comments - it brings great relief. I also found that the execises the PT gave me helped to 'pump away' the swelling. Things will soon improve

NanaPat - good luck tomorrow..

Thanks Andy for the idea with the mattress. I did'nt even think of that but that would be better then as someone said to me having an I love lucy episode in my room where we are switching pillows. one on, take two off, need a smaller one, no a bigger one. lol. I am going to try it. Thanks....Kim

Hi Kim
We put a spare quilt and a couple of pillows under the bottom half of the matress, right across the width of the bed, and it worked a treat ! My wife is fine about sleeping with her feet raised luckily:hehe: It only amounts to about 4 to 6 inches raised but definately seems to help!
I was having problems with my foot 'ballooning' over the day - and once I raised the mattress my foot was back to normal size each morning!!
Glad I could help !

Regards
Andy

Andy,

I agree with Kim. Thanks for the elevated mattress idea! My surgery is tomorrow (5/27) so I'll definitely be able to put that hint to good use starting as soon as I get home from the hospital.

Andy, that's a great suggestion about elevating the entire mattress. I think that will help some of our forum members who have trouble dealing with the pillows. Thanks!!!

I really really hope that I can help some of the forum members here, as their willingness to share their experiences and tips has helped me massively over the last few weeks (yes - I was a'lurker' for a while )

You are a fantastic bunch of people - thank you ALL for sharing what is really very personal information.:thmb:

Kind regards
Andy

Andy....we love lurkers just the same as official forum members. I think LOTS of folks read for a while before deciding to become an active member. Nothing wrong with that AT ALL!!! If they are helped...we're happy!!!

Andy...So much better lurking here than on other sites.....that's for sure! Yes! There's such joy in sharing! How are you feeling today? Does damp weather affect you in any way? Was just wondering! Feel good! :)

Hi Judles
Thanks for asking - I am feeling great today thanks :thmb: Went to PT earlier and he said he was impressed with my walking again, and my increased ROM compared to last week ! Woo hoo :D:D
He has given me a whole new range of exercises to do (squats and standing up extensions, and stair stepping) which is just great . Soo yes - I am feeling on top of the world and soooo enjoying my new hip, especially the walking bit :thmb:

I don't seem to have any adverse effects from the damp weather up to now - which is also a massive change from before my op. I only had OE in the one hip due to accidents so I am not an OE sufferer generally - thankfully....

'feel good'.....oh YES :D:D I feel fantastic - I have just got back from a 2 mile evening walk with my dog and cannot believe I have NO PAIN.....amazing:hehe::hehe::hehe:

Regards
Andy

Yes I was a lurker too !!! lol What kind of dog do you have? You can post a pic you know. We would love to see....Kim

Hi Kim
We have a lovely, daft 6yr old 'forever puppy' who is a Weimerana. He's a lovely boy  but is also as mad as a box of frogs :D:D

Is there a particular place to post the doggie pics? I will get one onto photobucket in the next day or two - hopefully along with a scar pic or two and maybe even an x-ray of my new 'parts' lol

Regards
Andy

Love to see the dog, can't pronounce the name but love to see the dog...lol Yes , I will look it up unless someone knows off hand...
