he did not say that b4
did anyone of you that had bilateral have to go to rehab and for how long?

vicki

Vicki,
You should post this in knee replacement thread also.
There are some that went to rehab and some that didn't
I think that rehab is the way to go!!! But that is my opinon.

Vicki, I'm moving your thread to the knee surgery forum. It is more appropriate there and you will receive more responses that way. Because it is a duplicate thread, I deleted the one you started in the RECURRING INFORMATION forum.

Best of luck on your surgery! I think the idea of a rehab center is great. It provides you really focused physical therapy that gives you a head start for going home with TWO new knees.

thanks
somehow i lost my links to this site??
pc dummy , and stressed, can't imagine why.ahhaahha

Cindy , you still out there.
how is your recovery going??
vicki :wahey:

God luck Vicki i will keep you in my prayers you will be fine and we will all be looking for your return...........) positive thoughts..............

I didn't have a bi-lateral done- just the one. But I was in the hospital from the date- a Wednesday, till that Sunday. Then I was "discharged" and "sent" to a rehab. Well, the whole thing is on the same floor of the hospital. So, they wheeled me down to the other end of the wing, set me up in my own room (I had to share the other room with a non-surgical patient; crikey, what a long story there), and brought in loads of discharge paperwork and admittance paperwork.

I was there for ten days. (so, two weeks total in the hospital). Because my house isn't handicapped accessible in any way (our only loo is upstairs!), I stayed with my parents in their totally accessible home for two more weeks. (I would have gone home a few days before had my husband installed the handles in the loo like I asked him to).

Good luck. Speedy recovery to you. :thmb:

Yes Vicki, I am still here. I will always be here:hehe:. Are you all set for the surgery? I went straight home from the hospital and had home health PT for 2 1/2 weeks then I went to the hospital 2X a week for 6 weeks for PT. I had a friend stay with me for a week that's the only reason I was allowed to go straight home.

I know you will be fine! Make sure you post as soon as you can and let us know how you did! Don't make me come chase you down...I will if I don't hear from you:hehe::hehe::hehe::hehe:!

I will be on here on and off all weekend so feel free to come here anytime. The last couple days before surgery can be very stressful so stay busy! Do things to try to keep your mind off the surgery!

Thinking positive thoughts for you, Vicki! You'll be on the other side before you know it!!!:thmb::skp:
:pnc:

thanks everybody, i am nerveous,
feel like i am about to jump out of my skin.
but like Judi said i will be on the other side soon.

thats odd Cindy, i told him i have someone (friend) that will stay with me 24/7, but he still mentioned rehab. said he wanted to send me where a friend of his is, that runs the rehab..?? that did not set to well with me.
will email as soon as i can.
thanks guysm

Dear Vicki,
I had both knees done almost 4 months to your date coming this Monday. I had my surgery on June 4th. I amazed everyone I had both done at the same time. The lady across the street from me had one done 2 months before me and I was out walking so soon she was upset.
My surgeon did not believe in a extensive rehab until I was competely healed. I did minor rehab in the hosp. and at home with a therapist but, I did really wonderful. I had the best surgeon in PA. He was voted that in 2007. He was wonderful to me!! I thank him for giving me life back. That's not to say I'll not 100%, just 75%. He said give yourself a year.
I had one friend who's surgeon made her do therapy right after she got home and she suffered terribly. So I guess it is your surgeon who tells you.
I'll think of you Monday. You'll do great and it is not bad. I was amazed.
God Bless you Vicki.
Jayne

Hi Vicki....it's very normal to get anxious before surgery; I was also about to jump out of my skin...didn't even go to bed the night before.

As far as rehab goes, I went. My particular one, my Dr. helped me get into because you had to have a recommendation for it. It takes a lot of dedication to complete it and most people in rehab are not bilaterals, so anyway, that's where I went.

If you are looking to skip rehab, which I completely understand, as it's pretty intense and takes dedication, and it also expensive, be sure you know how to get in and out of shower/bath, basically get yourself dressed, know how to work your wheelchair, be sure you know how to get in and out of the bed, know how to use your walker.....many, many other safety features.

You can pretty much tell rehab etc what your goals are and no one can force you into it.

Much luck to you.

Hi Vicki,
Wishing you the very best for Monday. That day will come and go,and you will be on the road to recovery.I am sure all will go well for you,as far as being scared ,we all were. But guess what, time goes fast and your days of feeling better are getting closer every day!
Very good luck!! You shall do fine!

Vicki, with just a few days to go I'll bet you are terrified, that's why we are here! I'm going to be crying on your shoulder in a few weeks.
Just remember this, my surgeon told me..."50% of the outcome is due to technical skill---him, and 50% is rehab--you."
But ****, he said nothing about being scared, LOL.
Best of luck to you. We are here.

Vicki...haven't heard from you...Are you O.K.? Please post and let us know how you are doing! Everything will be just fine tomorrow. I will send good thoughts and prayers your way!

Vicky,
I hope that you are finding little things to do today to keep your

posting!! We always like to hear all the hospital stories!! But
in till then my prayers will be with you.
