HI guys. I just want some scar info.
The last of my steri strips 'Fell" off last night. The problem is that my scar is very lumpy. The incision istself loooks nice and well healed, a nice straight line. But the whole area is lumpy! It almost looks like the staple were too tight, with all the swelling I had.
Is this normal? Will it go away? Is it time to massage it? What do you recommend my fellow Bone Smarties????
Thanks in advance!

Mine too was lumpy but it has flattened now, but I do massage at least once a day with moisturiser. XX

Mine used to have a pucker at the top and the skin kinda rolled over the end, but it's gotten OK. Just takes time.

Mine too. Now its flat. I put lotion on it at least twice a day and at least one of those times (sometimes twice, or even thrice!) I massage it really well.

It took about six or seven months for mine to go completely flat.

It's because of the subcuticular stitches. It's pretty well impossible to get them knotted so things lie evenly. But within a few weeks the suture material will dissolve and break and the tissue will be able to start flattening itself out.

Thanks Jo, I was hoping you'd see my post.

Bunny....my scar had a couple of REALLY bumpy areas that I had just decided would be the way they are and I would love them anyway....sort of like red-headed step children. But...lo and behold....they completely flattened out and are fine now. I didn't put anything on them and they got better anyway. It did take a while...many months. So I'm sure your gnarly areas will be beautiful one day also.

My scar lumpiness comes and goes (probably some swelling) but over all it has flattened nicely.

As Jaime said she was determined to love her scar the way it is....I am a little nutty...but you could make a fake tatoo by using washable markers just to put the scar in prospective. I think a nice catepillar would be appropriate. As I said I am just not quite right!!

Good luck

I want to get a tattoo on mine of either a zipper or laces. My staple marks are still very visible. But I doubt I ever get that tattoo, mostly because the sensitivity of the scar itself.

I REALLY want a biomechanical tattoo on the outside of my leg- so it looks like the skin is split open so you can see the "Terminator"-style robotics inside. But, that's a hugely expensive tattoo and it will probably be years before I can get that done!

(in case anyone didn't know, I have eight tattoos).

Patty, I googled some images and found these - is this the kind of thing you mean?

Awesome! But wouldn't want one on my leg!

This is more of what I had in mind. Something with multicolors. Would be a fun art project for kids or grandkids. Okay...I admit it, I am not right!:hehe: broken link removed: https://rds.yahoo.com/_ylt=A0WTefclyQZLCq0AwAWjzbkF/SIG=11vpcj3b4/EXP=1258822309/**http%3A//www.123child.com/animals/cpillar.jpg

The kind I would want would be small, less than six inches and it would look like metal/"Terminator" skeleton-like. There are some biomechanical tattoos that are really awesome, but far too intricate for my tastes.

Till I got this big ol' scar and bionic knee, I had no desire to get any kind of tattoo aside from the kind I already have. I have six on my back that are animals in relation to the tarot card/palm reading thing I do (I follow a Pagan path, mostly Native American in its beliefs- and one of those beliefs is spirit animals). All my back tattoos are of animals (in order of acquisition- lizard, frog, snake, wolf with two feathers, two feathers- that matches my Aussie friend's tattoo- and another lizard). I have a tattoo on the inside of each wrist as well. On my right wrist, I have the star pattern from the Australia Flag (Southern Cross) and on my left wrist, I have the Big Dipper and North Star from the Alaska state Flag. ~Link to wrist tattoo picture~

Seeing as how good tattoos are expensive and there's no way I could pay for a bio-mech, I'll have to be satisfied with the big ol' scar as my "badge of honor".

S'funny - I saw one of those "How Do They Do It" documentaries on a satellite channel last night. How they assemble the needles and solder them together before autoclaving them in a packet! Interesting ....
