My resurrection today!

Wonderful choices of Cathedrals for your pilgrimage, and what a great way to complete it by using your flags.

I have visited Durham, York and Coventry. I wondered at the skilled stonemasons of Durham and York, a real joy to behold.
Coventry is a stunning building, the coloured stained glass side windows are wonderful and the Baptistery window moved me to tears by its beauty. Don't forget to turn and look back to the Old Cathedral through the new windows, quite an effect. Not too sure about the large tapestry on the east wall tho' !

I know Coventry very well. I was working at the hospital there when it was being built and watched the helicopter lower the cross onto the roof. I have b/w photos of the site still surrounded by boards. Since then I have visited a few times and revel in every facet of it.

The minister in charge of the project was actually the brother of a surgeon I worked with during my early years. He worked tirelessly all his life to get the new cathedral built but when it came time for it to be sanctified, he decided to step down as he felt that a new cathedral should have a new man to run it. How humble was that?

Plus it figures in one of my novels!

too far away! The Lord told me the geographical area He wanted me to work within and Southwell Cathedral (think I left that one off) was the farthest south.

What a plan! I'm intrigued to know how you are going to fulfil that dream. Do you just turn up at a Cathedral, does it have to be during a particular sort of service (or none), do you have to let anyone know you are coming, how do you go about all that? Have you any dates sorted yet?

How are the knees these days?

What was the outcome of the business with that settee earlier this year? I might have missed the result of your complaint as I've been away rather a lot. Have you still got it, and if so, is it still uncomfortable?

Far be it from me to interfere with the Lord's plans, but just for your info, Bradford is further north than Manchester, Sheffield, Leicester, Coventry and Southwell!! I guess I'd just like to see you in action!! Linda x

Really? I never realised! Have to get the maps out and look again! Plus which, I'd love to pay a visit to the broken link removed: https://www.alm.org.uk/ even if Paul Scanlon does tick me off!

Actually, it's quite a rigmarole, booking a spot in the cathedrals. I have to ring and ask who the Succentor is (they keep the diary!) and then ring them and explain who I am, what I want to do and all, including that I want to do it before the main altar. Usually, I assure them I do not want to interfere with any of their services or anything and will go in any time they say. This has generally been about 8am. I also have to ask permission to use my own music and camera and assure them that it's all been PAT tested and that I will bring the certificates! After that, it has to go before the Diosese for approval. Finally, after about 3 weeks, I'll get permission and the name of the Verger who will let me in and see to any requirements I have. On the two occasions thus far I have been very well treated and even offered a cup of tea after!

The settee remains. I lost my case against the store - the independent ombudsman considered it was "fair wear and tear" due to my enormous weight and my using only one seat all the time! Resigned, I now look forward to getting a new one in the Jan sales.

On a brighter note - I returned to the gym today. Didn't stay too long, about 40 mins but had a goodish workout considering it's been a year since I last went. I shall do my very best to go 3 times a week in future. I hate this wibbly wobbly feeling I get in my right leg from time to time - due mostly to the enforced 'rest' from my left knee.

Well, slap me! I always thought Bradford was down near Birmingham somewhere!

Plus, never knew it was a city and had a cathedral! :doh:A lovely cathedral, what's more!

Well there you go, Jo, you've learnt something today!

Should you decide to give Bradford a try, we do have 'connections' at the Cathedral. Husband Paul is on very good terms with the Dean, one of the Canons and the Head Verger, and also the Bishop. What it is to have friends in high places!

We've just left the local church where we've worshipped, but struggled, for the past few years, and from this coming Sunday we will be making the Cathedral our spiritual home and regular place of worship.

Plans are afoot for Paul soon to be working there, setting up a base for some of his Spiritual Direction work, so if we can help at all, just shout. Linda x

wow! That's cool! It would be a nice thought. Actually, all the other spots on the list are places I've had a connection with in some way. But now I know you - so that's a connection, isn't it? :hehe:

I'm very impressed that you hope to go to the gym three times a week - wow! I've decided to increase the time I spend on my exercise bike from one minute a day to perhaps twenty! :hehe: That's all the exercise I get apart from taking lots of walks. I feel that my quads need some work to strengthen them though, so must make a bit more effort.

It sounds quite a rigmarole to get your 'flagging' organised. If you do it at 8 am, does anyone see you? I wouldn't have thought there were many people around at that time in the morning. Presumably you can then post your photos so that they can be seen later.

I didn't know Bradford had a Cathedral either, but then it is a long long way from where I live. Coventry is rather special, with the ruins of the old building just outside, and the beautiful window - and did you know that the organ keys are different to most keyboards - the sharps and flats are white, the other notes are black. I think I'm correct in saying that!

Wow Jo,

So glad to see you flagging again. Praise the Lord! Looking forward to seeing your videos on youtube. So enjoyed your other ones. Very worshipful.

Enjoy!

Hey, Mom! Great to see you.

And no, Val - nobody sees me apart from some of the staff. But that's the whole point. It's not a public performance as such - just a quiet communion between me and my God, an act of obedience to do as He has bid me. So it is, perforce, a relatively private one.

(then I put it on YouTube! :hehe:)
