Oh Jen....I'm so very sorry to hear you mom has fallen!!! You have my prayers and hope for things to improve quickly. It sounds like she is in good hands with the hospital staff....and we KNOW she is in good hands with God. Bless you.....

What a bummer! But two of my sisters sustained compression fractures of vertebrae (albeit as teenagers!) and though they still have back aches and pains, it liveable with! Hopefully your mother will heal well.

Jennifer, it was so nice to hear your voice the other night! I am praying for your Mom and I am anxious to get the next report!

Mom is doing MUCH better. We went to a spine surgeon for a general follow up opinion and he said her injury is minor enough that she won't need surgery. She started outpatient therapy this week so hopefully soon she will start to rebuild her muscle and gain more mobility and independence. Her meds seem to be working now and she is more comfortable than she was. Thanks for your prayers. Praying we are smooth sailing now....finally....ha! Ohhh and the orthopedic surgeon out in Texas that did my mom's surgery left his practice and opened one of his own!!! I think that is awesome news and i'm kinda hoping maybe he realized that if a woman was willing to spend thousands in travel to come see HIM (instead of the MAIN doctor) maybe that should give him confidence that he should be running his OWN practice. Mom has received great input from any doc here that has heard her story or seen her knee site. I think we blew away a lot of top doctors here out in the philly area with her story. thanks again ladies!

I'm so glad to hear your mom is better. God bless you both.....you have had some challenges!

I especially like hearing the stories about the doctors in your area when they hear your mom's story. Maybe next time they won't be so quick to write someone off who is having problems!!

STAFF NOTE: For those whe were following Jennifer's story of her mother's surgery, here is an update I received yesterday. I have reopened the thread so you may comment. Jennifer....please keep the happy updates like this coming! It's so wonderful to read. And I ADORE your new avatar photo of the two of you. What a blessing to have your mom still in your life!

My mom is DRIVING!!!!!!!!!! still MRSA free and knee is doing great. she finished therapy but joined the therapy place as member so she can go and work out whenever she wants. They are molding her for a shoe so she can better work out. She is completely out of a wheel chair now and on a cane! She has surpassed all her local doctors expectations and is weaning off antibiotics now. so amazing! God is so good. Thanks again for all your prayers and support. Please pass this on to Josephine. thanks!! take care!!

I am still reading about your Mom's problems and they are simular to mine. (fixing to start my own thread). I'm glad she is doing so well and if you didn't say in the forum please tell us HOW she got better so maybe I can try following in her footsteps.

thanks

That is great! Woo hooo!

Rena, she got better by choosing a first class revision surgeon!

That is great news hugs to you and your mom

Its always good news to hear about progress, which your mother has made. Good for her, Will keep her in my prayers, thanks for sharing this with us:friends:

I see that. And he is in Texas. I am defentaly going to have to talk to him. I'm not going to cancel the surgery on Tuesday though... I need the stupid infection out of my leg. I just hope my present OS will talk with him. I really like my OS but I just think I have gone above his knowlege pier. I need someone that does a LOT of revisions. My OS has done a few and MOST of them are on ME

Rene, yes we did have to travel to get all this done but it was worth it. The doctors name was Dr. Jorge Casas. He is now located in Housten now i believe. I will admit, he did not speak with us over the phone. We had to go only through his PA and in turn she would speak to him for us. We also had to fax him all my mom's records to look over. I will also admit that we went out their blindly but my mom was admitted right away and surgery done with in days. He was excellent. An angel honestly. Brilliant, caring, and trustworthy doctor. If I had to do it all over with mom and take her to Antarctica to see this guy, i would do it in a heart beat.

Hi Jen...I stumbled across this tread tonight...do you have an update on how your mom is doing? What did she opt to do?

I have exactly the same story you have...verbatim...and we today were told about making the choice for knee fusion. The only difference in our stories is my mom is 75 years old (but in otherwise good health). Let me know..please! Thanks.

Keefer, Jen doesn't come here too regularly now but it's all in this thread - read it from the beginning.
Actually, we managed to get her to see a specialist in Houston who found she didn't need a fusion after all and just did a revision. After which she has done splendidly.

Do tell me some detail about your mother and what problems she is facing.
Her age should not be a problem. (I'm 70 and still working! :wink1:)

If there is anything I can help with, please say.
