Hang in there, @Monika66 .... pretty soon you'll be posting in this thread as a recovering hippie!! If you find yourself getting that fear again, just post here about what's bothering you and your BoneSmart family will rally 'round to help you through it. This is the only way to really get a quality of life back once a bad hip takes control.

Thank you Jamie, I appreciate your words of encouragement. I am not experiencing too much pain, I am bone on bone. The worst is my limping and my limitations to walk very far. So I need to just jump in and get this done .

I rescheduled my first surgery and OS said to think of it as a trial run, that it would feel familiar when the time came -and he was right. As I posted to another member sometimes a person needs some extra time to absorb it all, I also needed two thr's and was blown away by the diagnosis and treatment. The right OS will settle your mind when you place your trust in him/her. The limping is tough and it tires you out. You have over three weeks to go and you'll do just fine :)

Go for it Monika!! I was shocked by the diagnosis too and it took me a while to get my head around it but it hangs over your head as you know you have to do it. The pain gets worse very quickly. The waiting is much worse than the event and once it's done it's like a huge weight off your shoulders. Everyone has told me I look 10 years younger and I think that is partly because that awful pain has gone but also because the worry of the op has gone. Look forward to hearing your updates. The forum is a fantastic support and great info on what to expect and how to make everything easier out the other side.
    Take care,
    Sam :)

@Monika66 Well done on setting that surgery date. You won't regret with great surgery. And the best part is no more bone on bone pain!

You will notice I moved your thread to the pre-op area. We can move it to the post-op area once you are on your way.

Go for it. You will be so happy once it's done. I am 2 days shy of 3 weeks post op from LTHR and thrilled to have had the surgery. I was bone on bone and probably was for quite some time. I never doctored for it as I just assumed arthritis and I would deal. I was limping and my walking was getting worse and worse. Right after the first of the year, seemingingly overnight, I could not walk. The pain was excrutiating and yes, it can happen very quickly. Trust me, you do not want to get to that point. The surgery was not nearly as bad as I had anticipated. My recovery is fairly straighforward and uneventful.

@Monika66, I'm going in the same day as you... I can totally relate to being nervous about it, but I'm also just ready to get it done and over with. On one hand, I am hoping that the next few weeks fly by, but on the flip side I still feel like I have too much stuff to get done before I take an extended leave from the office.

I'm right ahead of you on 3/20. Please think of me and I will think of you. Had my left hip done in 2010 and have never been sorry. Pain free is everything.

    We can do this.

I had both of my hips done in the year 2011. It was something that scared me going into it but honestly hips if you do all the things that they ask you to do exercise wise you will have no problems and be so glad that you had this done. I am five weeks post op from having my left knee totally replaced and I have to tell you I'll have my hips replaced any day of the week compared the knee replacement.
Honestly do not let your mind talk you into things you will have a good recovery stay positive stay focused and you'll be posting on here in no time he'll glad you were that you had it done

Thank you bteem. I appreciate your thoughts, I hope your recovery gets better, I have heard knees are more difficult. I too will need my other hip done, hopefully later this year. Take care of yourself, planning on posting soon after my surgery.
