No, you haven't hit a brick wall. It's just taking longer than last time. It will come.
Thanks Sara61It's really still early days, I'm almost at 6 months and still have swelling especially if I overdo things. It really is a patience tester this recovery but try and not worry too much - use plenty of ice and elevate as much as you can.
@Defender - Try not to compare your knee with other people's knees. every knee is different and every recovery is different. Your knee might have needed more work during surgery than someone else's knee did, and that might be one reason why your knee is taking longer. It's when I see most people at this stage are up to 90 degrees and many are far beyond that and I am stuck at 75 degrees at best
Yes my knee is still really swollen to the point of not even having a kneecap.
Thanks as I am an engineer by trade i like to know things like this.I know very little about the difference in the two. I will ask those who know more about it for you.
Thanks I can see a lot of sense in what you say. This is a non-medical opinion, just based on what I remember my surgeon telling me and what I've read.
Both my knees are uncemented and I've been happy so far--going on 9 years. My surgeon liked uncemented for younger patients. (not sure if he still does) He said the bone grows in around the implant without cement so if you should need a revision in 20+ years, there's less bone loss because they don't have to clean out the cement and lose some bone in the process. (Some OS will say that loss is tiny so not a problem.)
My OS put a few screws in, which was supposed to keep the implant stable while the bone was growing in--so I could be weight bearing right away. For my 2nd knee he also used some bone graft material for extra insurance, I guess you'd say. They've been good and stable. I think the OS needs to decide if your bone density makes you a good candidate as well.
On the other hand, most OS will say the cemented is the tried and true. There is always a chance you won't get good bone ingrowth with uncemented.
Hi.Did you do anything different yesterday? Could you have moved wrong while sleeping? These days pop up for no known reason sometimes and we just have to stop and baby it until the temper tantrum is over with.
