My Knee Is Really Swelled Up And I Can Hardly Walk, Im 8 Weeks Post-op And I Was Working In The Yard Sunday For About 5-6 Hours. Not Heavy Work, Just Tugging And Pulling Walking And Bending. When I Got Up The Next Morning My Knee Looks Like It Did The First Week I Had Tkr. Has Anyone Had This Kind Of Swelling. John

You would get a better response in a different thread or just start your own. I am a hippy so can not comment on your knee. Although my hip sure acts up when it thinks I've done too much.

Not at all uncommon, John. I just emailed you a reply but I'll say it here as well. The mantra is ice, ice, ice, elevate, elevate, elevate and rest, rest, rest!

Next time, make sure you only do short stints in the yard, say 2 hours max, and then an hour's rest and ice. You're pushing yourself too much, especially with all that bending and pulling.

BTW - post moved!

Hi John, Josephine is right. You have to learn how far to push and know the boundaries...... It's really easy to go too far and I guess the only way you know you have overdone it is to overdo it!

I am now 6 weeks out and just returned from a trip last night. My flight schedules last week and yesterday were to last 4 1/2 hours each day. Instead, I had flight trouble both ways and the trips each took 12 hours! Ugh.... It was absolutely awlful sitting around airports and being stuck on planes for the additonal time. Luckily, I had flight attendents both ways that made me ice packs. Everyone was very nice. I sure paid the price however, walking around airports and not having my leg elevated. I'm glad to be back home with my recliner and ice machine today! Karen

Now that I think about it, Karen you are right on....the only way to know what is too much is to overdo it.
THat is what my surgeon told me , ..he said..inevitably you will overdo it and you will know.

johnc, Sorry to hear about your knee but boy I bet it was worth it getting in that garden and playing! I so miss that with my home. You just start and bam the sun is going down! I realize now my yard work was my form of relaxing. Of course I didn't find that out till I moved to this condo! So now what?!LOL
Hope your feeling better now with lots of ice and take a timer with you next time! Happy gardening!!!
