Oh @FourCats, I'm sorry you are struggling right now. I've also been struggling with feeling more helpless than I've ever felt. I'm usually a very independent person - I take care of most everything by myself. But - my house really could use a deep clean, my garden is a mess, etc. I know you don't want to hear that it is temporary, but I really do think that it's important to keep that in mind. When I look around at everything that I should be doing but can't do yet (e.g., move the sofa and vacuum up the mounds of dog and cat hair) I have to just keep telling myself that this is actually temporary. I'm also thinking of hiring a cleaner to come in every other week or so.
So - please hang in there. You might feel helpless right now, but this is temporary. If you didn't do the knee surgery, you might have ended up helpless for years and years. That's what I try to keep in mind when I'm feeling downtrodden by how much things have slipped this summer after I had surgery.
