Congratulations on your new hip!

Here are our general recovery guidelines. Please read these links so you'll be better prepared for the weeks to come.

Hip Recovery: The Guidelines

1. Don’t worry: Your body will heal all by itself. Relax, let it, don't try and hurry it, don’t worry about any symptoms now, they are almost certainly temporary
2. Control discomfort:
rest
ice
take your pain meds by prescription schedule (not when pain starts!)

3. Do what you want to do BUT
a. If it hurts, don't do it and don't allow anyone - especially a physical therapist - to do it to you
b. If your leg swells more or gets stiffer in the 24 hours after doing it, don't do it again.

4. PT or exercise can be useful BUT take note of these

5. At week 4 and after you should follow this

6. Access to these pages on the website

Pain and swelling control: elevation is the key

Sleep deprivation is pretty much inevitable - but what causes it?

BIG TIP: Hips actually don't need any exercise to get better. They do a pretty good job of it all on their own if given half a chance. Trouble is, people don't give them a chance and end up with all sorts of aches and pains and sore spots. All they need is the best therapy which is walking and even then not to excess.

Great to hear your surgery is done! Remember any obstacles are only temporary. Every day I’m sure you will see improvement. Rest and remain positive. Your on your way to enjoying that new hip !!!

God Bless

Did you like having the epidural block? That is what my OS will be using. Was the surgery better or worse than you had anticipated? Better, I hope. Good luck on your recovery. :)

Dhall the epidurak is the way to go. No nausea or side effects from General anesthesia. Yes, Im uncomfortable cant hide that but compare to the pain that I have been enduring no comparison. Its well doing your hip. It really is not as bad as it really looks. Its scary, but they have everything under control and besides you aint gonna feel a thing. Blessings on your surgery. When is your date of surgery? Im here for you, whatever I can do let me know. If you can read my post I cancelled surgery prior to this one on Sept 18. I didnt feel right. sometimes we have to go with Gods decision; and if you have a gut feeling go see another surgeon. Make sure this surgeon does 300+ surgeries a year.Much Love, from my hospital bed in room 5348. Gretelin.

Elf1 Im trying but is very uncomfortable because of the wedge they put between your legs and also the compression socks plus I dont like too much sleeping on my back. Catch you later.

Hi @Gretelin You did it!! congratulations on that shiny new hip! I really am so happy for you. yes, there will be some uncomfortable moments and groin pain but nothing like the pre surgery pain.

Hopefully you will be able to sleep, I never could. Watched old re runs most of the night in the hospital.

Take care, so happy for you. :loveshwr:

I didnt take my tramadol for pain. My pain was not that bad.

:hi:
I am glad you are on the healing side.
Hopefully you will be able to get better rest when you get home...hospitals aren't the most relaxing places:) :-) (:
I didnt take my tramadol for pain. My pain was not that bad.
Please consider taking your meds on schedule right now.
You want to stay AHEAD of pain, and the residual surgery anaesthetic will leave and this is when I had a brief time of uncontrolled pain. Not fun.
It may also help you doze and the body can use all the healing rest it can get.
Sending healing mojo your way:loveshwr:
