Hello all. Wanted to pop in and say hi. I'm officially 12 weeks out now and have finally reached the point at which I'm technically released without restrictions.

I've not been posting much, because I've been so busy. I do so many things outside during the summer that I don't spend as much time on the computer. Good thing I guess. But I have been checking in and reading the board every few days.

Anyway, my recovery is going splendid. I'm flexing well beyond 90 degrees. I can even almost touch my nose to my knee while stretching! If I can ever get to the point where I can flex my knee out and bring my foot near my face (sounds weird but hard to explain) I will feel I have arrived.

Most of my fitness is on the bike. I started riding outside 3 weeks ago - 3 weeks before my OS really wanted me to but I felt I was ready. I absolutely love it! I generally ride at least an hour each day (take one day off a week) and some days go to almost 2 hours. I even rode over 130 miles last week.

The hip has done fantastic. My quads have not been real happy, but it's good to know the hip is not a weak point.

I'm riding a race (first ever bike race) tomorrow morning and I'm really stoked. Hopefully, it all goes well.

I have slacked on the weight work the last couple of weeks because of work and life but plan on getting engaged again next week. Of course with all the hills I have to ride the bike on I do get a lot of resistance work every time I ride.

I won't write a novel here, you can visit my blog for that, but things are progressing extremely well and I just wanted to share. So many things I've read from those before me have come to fruition. I look forward to the coming improvements.

Cheers to all.

Hi Scottie! Been wondering how you've been doing! Wowb. How fantastic about your race! I can feel your excitement! Just take it easy tomorrow! I know it's a race, but you're already a winner! Be well and ENJOY LIFE!!! :)

Great to hear from you, Scott! And what a great post!!! Now THAT should be an inspiration to a lot of folks. Thanks so much for taking time to update us on your progress....you are doing so wonderful!

Hey Scott , Sounds like you are doing great. I am happy for you. Please be careful tomorrow and good luck with the race.....Its ok about the computer. This is what you did it for to go back and do those thing......Good luck in the future as well...........Thanks for posting such good news its great to hear....

You will come back and tell us how you did in the race, won't you?

Great report Scott :D :thmb: Also good to hear that flexibility coming back. I'm still struggling with that, but I have not been real faithful doing the stretches daily. Your post has encouraged me to get right back into it. I too would like a close-up view of my foot :hehe:

Scott -so great to hear you are doing so well! Yes, I'm trying to improve my external rotation too -if I can ever get my knee all the way down to the floor like my left -that would be progress! :)

Keep riding!

Hey Scott, great to hear how good you are doing!:D I know what you mean about the bike riding - I absolutely love it, too! But I only get about 1/2 an hour a day in, 5-6 days a week - work gets in the way during the summer! Good luck in your race and let us know how you did!! Happy cycling!:p

hey scott. congrats. good luck in the bike race today. i'm so glad you posted. lets me know the kind of things that are very attainable. i'm following your blog because this is great inspiration. thanks

Well, when I got to the race I found out it was more of a ride. There was only two other people in the 20-mile portion and one of those was a father and three of his kids on a tandem hooked up to a smaller bike hooked up to a cart. There were quite a number of folks in the 100 and 50 mile groups, so I decided to connect with another group and just ride until I felt I needed to turn around. By the time I was done I did 50 miles!

I didn't know I had it in me at all. I never felt any pain at all in the hip. My quads are a different story. They burned like heck on the hills. This was the first time I've ridden with other people and it is so much better and easier than riding by yourself. The drafting technique really works. I even took my turns pulling the group. Averaged 18 mph for the entire ride, so I was really pleased with that as well.

The morning after I'm not very sore but do have some soreness in the glute around my incision. It's just soreness so I'm not concerned. I'm honestly shocked how well the hip is doing. Prior to the surgery I couldn't even run 40 minutes without my leg being so sore I would have to use my hands to help lift it.

I still have to listen to my body as I continue training, but I'm extremely pleased how well it has reacted.

How wonderful, Scott!!! Wow, I'm impressed with what you are able to do also! Great report....and a big inspiration to others who are following you in recovery.

How awesome Scott. I am totally impressed with your recovery. My THR was 21Apr. I was never a runner or biker, downhiller and tennis, but I did ride 2 miles yesterday. My new sport! Three of my sons are long distance bikers. One building me a bike. Can't wait for my move to pacific Nw and cooler climate to bike.

As a convert myself, I think you'll love it!

Scott--Congratulations on the great recovery. I am ahead of you by a couple of weeks, but I am certainly behind you in recovery, particularly on the flexibility side. My flexibility has been slow to come around; however, I haven't had much flexibility for a long time, so I guess that is natural. I am doing weight training and I opted for swimming, which is working out well. I still intend to get on the bike trails, we have bunches of them here, but I haven't made that a priority yet. Nevertheless, before my surgery, I couldn't even get o a road bike, so I bought a delta trike instead. That trike helped me get into a bit of shape pre-surgery. Now, post-surgery, I am finding that it is very heavy and I am looking for a good old mountain bike to ride with.
Best of luck on your continued recovery.
