I just had TLHR on the 20th and came home on the 22nd. I am noticing when I am walking with my walker that my muscles(?) seem to snap 3 or 4 times as I am walking and it is not just one it can be in different areas - front of leg, side of hip and back of hip. I called the nurse and she said that is just adjusting to the implant but I wondered if anyone could explain this more -it is bugging me and knowledge of what is happening I think will relieve my mind. Thanks!

Hi Lea! Welcome to Bonesmart!
I had a RTHR on Nov 7th.
I have no idea about muscle snapping, but if you have auestions, I would call your OS and ask him directly! Its always better to talk with someone who knows YOUR particular case! Best of luck & be sure to post when you can! :)

Snapping, or as I discribe it, "clunking" is actually quiet common among hip resurface patients, so i would expect the same to be somewhat true among THR patients.

One explanation I've read is that a tendon which is stretched tight is rubbing across the joint or bone and like a banjo string, sorta snaps. My OS said it wasn't anything to worry about if there is no pain associated with it, and should go away in time.

Hi Lea, and welcome! I had RTHR on Feb. 4, and I have no idea what the muscle snapping might be about either. I agree with Judles - ask your OS. Maybe Josephine will be able to shed some light on it. I am really impressed that you are already posting at just 3 days post-op, though! Take care and keep us informed about those muscle snaps!

Welcome, Lea! We are happy to have you as a BoneSmart forum member! I think you are following the best plan....keeping in touch with your surgeon's office for any questions or concerns. Many times with knees and hips the parts all have to "get acquainted" (as our forum nurse, Josephine, puts it) and that can take a little time for everything to adjust. It sounds like you are doing well in recovery!!

WElcome and that really is impressive to be able to post so soon. I don't think I moved enough aat 3 days to notice any noises.
I do think mudpro's explanation is correct though. I have that in my knees. But this early in the game reassurance is the best from the OS. They are there for you , just not as warm and fuzzy as we are.
Oh I had a right hip replacement on June 6th and am 51
