Welcome to our forum! I'm glad you found us too. Please post as soon as you feel like it after your MUA and let us know how your doing. We care!

I just wanted to also wish you smooth sailing tomorrow!

You will be glad you did it. A MUA is not as bad as people make it out to be. Will be sore a little while, but the difference is amazing. Hope all goes well today.

Blessings,

We've had quite a few people on the forum who have MUA's and they almost always report improvement in ROM. So I think you'll be happy you have the procedure done. It's pretty straightforward and you should be released to go home shortly afterwards. Good luck and let us know how it goes!

Greetings!

I had my MUA around five-ish weeks. My ROM was hovering between 55 and 65 degrees (65 with a lot of help from the PT), and it would always tighten back up within an hour of my PT session.

I wasn't happy going into my MUA, I thought it was something I'd done to myself (or, moreover, hadn't done properly). But, when it was all said and done, it was a HUGE improvement. I progressed by leaps and bounds afterwards.

Good luck!

It's rarely the patient's fault. Very rarely. Mostly it's just rotten bad luck.

I had some nurses who told me I wasn't "trying hard enough" when I was in the hospital. The chair that was in my room (it was in every room, actually) dug into the back of my thigh (I'm short) and I couldn't touch the floor with my un-surgical foot, much less the surgical one. The PT and OT had no problem with me sitting on my bed to do things, because the bed would be lowered till my feet could touch the floor. So, I'd eat my meals sitting on the edge of my bed instead of that awful chair.

And every day, at least one nurse would come in and tell me I wasn't trying hard enough and I'd end up not being able to bend or walk properly. I would tell them that the PT and OT told me it was okay. I'd explain about the chair. No matter... it was always something.

It wasn't till I was home with 'Net access that I found out what the adhesions/scar tissue problem was and what it was caused by. I still had that lingering doubt- "What if I didn't try hard enough? What if this is my fault?" till my surgeon told me that it wasn't my fault. He sorta shrugged and said, "It happens. A handful of people out of every hundred have this and it isn't a problem... we can fix it."

My PT told me how horrible MUA is, but I've figured out that he said that mainly to make me work harder, because no one here has said that it was THAT bad.

I've read many times that it did a world of good for so many.

Hi just checking in i hope everything went well...cant wait to hear from ya............hope you doing ok...........)

Well first impressions it was a huge success I woke up after spinal on CPM machine at 100 degrees pumped it up to 120 within a hr (Yes I pumped it up myself) my knee had literally shrunk by 1/2 its original size before the MUA looked completely normal so much in fact I sent a pic to my wife on my iphone just to show her how my knee went back to normal.... OBVIOUSLY I was ecstatic (BTW in case you did not figure it out OS kept me in hospital over nite to control pain) Was on CPM all night slept great, needless to say zero I mean ZERO pain, MUA was a cake walk, left hospital this morning walking on my own (slight limp)no cane no walker..... unfortunately my knee started to blow up after I got home, it got tight again like before the MUA and I have a little discomfort again feels like the adhesions are returning so I'm a little disappointed hopefully just a little swelling from the MUA will keep you all posted thanks for all your good thoughts

Going back to bed bend knee BEND......... Peace Louie

Louie,
Mine swelled up too each time but it will go down. And will you be using the CPM at home??? Or will you be going to PT right away???

Ifine....I think you'll find that tightness is swelling. Be sure you are icing as much as possible and keeping it elevated above your heart. You also should be on some type of anti-inflammant.
