I may be looking at an MUA ,not sure yet. Let me pose a question to anyone who has had this procedure. 1) Did it help or not 2) My PT tells me if I have one there is a good chance I will have a lot of swelling and go back to a walke,r what was your experience? Thanks ahead of time for the feedback.

Don

Funny you ask. Had one about 8 week after BLTKR July 08. Worked pretty good. Some swelling. Yea it hurt. It hurt so bad the next day at PT I about passed out. I am going in tomorrow to have it done again. I am kinda stuck at 95 on one knee and 110 on the other. I can live with what I got. No pain now but I want more ROM. OS said he was able to get 125 last time so I want something close to that. I had lots of scar tissue.

If you have to use a walker it would only be for a short period. The majority of MUAs work fine but some don't. Unfortunately you won't really know until afterwards.

Hey had my manipulation yesturday. Wasn't bad at all. So much easier than the first time. Lots of swelling last night. Used the ice man on the last night also. Had PT this morning. Everything is good.

I'm very pleased for you, Gary. Hope it goes on progressing well.

Hey as you can tell I didn't have to use a walker. I didn't even use my crutches. Did use them once in the mid night to get up. Didn't want to fall. I think the swelling and pulled mussels are what you may have to deal with.

Hi Gary,
Glad to hear you are doing well after your MUA. I too had to go back about 8 weeks post of (feb) I was stuck at 75-80 and am now at 110. I was forunate not to have any more pain than I was already having but I did have a little more swelling for a couple of days.

I noted that Doug had one for 110 and my OS doesn't do the MUA for that much flexion but wants me to push more in PT for another month which I am currently doing. It's interesting how each one feels. He says that under the manipulation he moved my knee to 130 and feels that I should be able to at least reach 120.

Jo, this question would help all of us who have had MUA or are considering it: The OS said I should get some results as much as 15 months post op if I continue to work at it. Have you heard of that?

Yep - tis said you can continue to improve for ages after the event. Depends how much effort you're prepared to put into it.

Pre teach

I grew up in Maumee and graduated from there. the name came from an old site somewhere that I couldn't get any screen names to work ,they came up with questions to put something together. I used to be a football coach whence the second part. I am in Cleveland now. Not that it will help much but my doctor is Hergenroeder.

I truly believe that they will continue to get better with time. If one keeps stretching and bending you can get more ROM as time goes.
