I will be having Bi-tkr in about 3 weeks and was wondering if there are any special precautions that I should take or just take forgranted that the hospital is on top of it (Baptist East-Memphis,TN)

Make sure anyone that comes to attend to you has washed their hands first. And keep asking even if they heave sighs of irritation - that includes doctors! And do the same yourself. For the first days when you can't easily get to the bathroom, have a pack of those moist, disinfectant wipes to use on your own hands and use them often.

I had to be tested for Mrsa prior to my surgery, to see if I was a carrier. They told me that even though you may not have it, you could be a carrier. My surgery was in Cincinnati, Ohio. However, I do have a brother that was working in a hospital installing some equipment and he contracted Mrsa while there. So you can never be to sure. I'd definitely make sure anyone who comes into contact with you washes right there in front of you. That is what I did. Even my husband and daughters.
