Today I had an epiphany. I decided that I am no longer going to sit around and wait to get well. Tomorrow will be my 6th week after surgery, and I am going to go crazy if I don't move on. I have been very good about doing my exercises and going to physical therapy. However, today, I picked myself up and walked all around Costco (a food warehouse) for the first time since surgery. I want my life back, and today I took the first step towards that goal.

Hey Sylvia I agree i did the same but you dont want to go backwards so be smart and easy about what you do....I think thats great i wish the best for you just be careful thats all.......but i so know how you feel sometimes you just have to......But start off slow...............You will be fine please lets us know how you are......

Sylvia

So glad you got out and it does make you feel better.

You did good to walk around Coscos it is a big store.

Just be careful don't over do.

A little each time to build up.

Keep up the good work.

Today, Costco.....Tomorrow the world!! Yay Sylvia! Just don't go too wild too fast!!:pzld::wink:

Sylvia,
Wow - walking around Costco is a great step back to normal. I felt the same way at 6 weeks and just wanted to get back to the things I used to do. So I just started doing more - driving, doing short errands around town, going out with my wife and friends for meals, etc. However I encountered another taste of normal yesterday when I pulled something in my back. It makes me almost forget that my knee just had surgery. So do be a little careful as you get back into the full swing of things.

Sylvia,
Enjoy yourself, just remember go at somethings a little slower
that way you will not go backwards.

And why not! However, I note you never told us what it was like afterwards!

I treated my recovery like my job. It was my sole purpose in life to get a little bit better and stronger every day. Yes, I had a couple of "ooopps days" when i over did it a little, but most went very well and I achieved my goal of getting back to complete (pre-arthritis) normal activity.

I did well after walking all over Costco...no swelling to speak of...and I felt good about myself. However, I understand the "take it easy" part.. Thanks guys and gals for all your positive feedback.

Sylvia -- that's fantastic that you were OK after the Costco walk about!!! That will give you the courage to do a little more each day. In my first 2 months I overdid it a few times and after reading about similar experiences on this forum -- the next day I just took it easy. In fact at 8 and a half months out -- I still do that when I've really wiped myself out. So listen to your body -- but the whole idea of the surgery is to get your life back. And it sounds like you've made a great big step in that direction.

Sylvia, way to go, girl!!! If you strolled in Costs (it's HUGE) and had no pain afterwards at 6 weeks out, you are doing fabulous. You have the right attitude and you're going to be back to your new normal life soon!!! Hooray!
