Went to St. Helena (Napa Valley) today for my 6 week check up (at 7 weeks).

I had 145 degrees flexion and full extension, everything else was stable and OK. I asked, how do I get more flexion, Dr. Coon told me to keep working at it, but my calf hits my thigh and I don't see how I can get more without losing weight. My scores qualified for the 6 month check up too.

I told him how I've been posting on the internet and he said BoneSmart had sent him an email of mine and are proposing a sort of joint venture, I guess on the site.

I can't see how any TKR can be better than this, less than 24 hours in hospital, walking unaided as soon as you get up. In my case I couldn't have PT since my husband had heart surgery and I had to walk, walk, walk at the hospital at 3 weeks and now I spend so much time taking him to his heart doctors and being with him, I don't have time for myself.

But, I'm still walking well, just a bit stiff when I get up from sitting a long time. And now that he has an office in St. Helena, I get to go shopping at my favorite boutique there afterward!

He said he is moving away from using Zimmer prostheses and using Stryker more. He's used them all though in his 4,000 quad sparing procedures.

Thanks Judy,

I am so glad all my restrictions are removed now...no more second guessing whether it's OK to try something. I can kneel, try getting my foot to my butt in standing position (in back), step up on things...

Doc asked how was I doing on stairs and in my house and places I go, there aren't any stairs. The few times I have found a stair or two and tried stepping up with opped knee, it hurt a bit...he said that would resolve with more time. When I step down with opped leg it is fine and very solid, more solid than my other leg. Other leg lacks cartilage too but hasn't hurt, but if this continues to be the case, that opped knee is so much stronger, I think I'll get other one done in March.

Anybody else...how are you doing on stairs?

Hubby is walking around now without aids but gets breathless a lot. We're going through more testing then meet with cardiologist again. I hope for the best, he is so hyperactive he's going nuts staying at home so much, although his friends take him out for short excursions.

hollie, you sound like you have your hands full at the moment! But you also seem to be doing so well. I'm impressed.

Depends upon the surgeons requirements, Hollie. But I think the need is less.
