Just passed my 3 month mark. My knee is stable and strong, it can walk long distances without pain. My other knee is really acting up and cannot walk long distances without pain or giving out. I see another surgery in my future.

The only time the new knee aches is when I get up from sitting to standing without using hands, or stepping up on a stair. Hopefully this will resolve before long.

I'm a bit bummed because there are two men we know who had the same procedure with this same OS, Dr. Coon, and they both said they were "fully recovered" in two months. They were able to climb stair with no pain and even ladders. I don't know why I'm taking a bit longer, they were slightly older than me. Perhaps men have more muscle mass in general that helps them?

I think you are right on track, Hollie9. Plus, everyone heals differently. It sounds to me like you are doing just great!!! It takes such a short time for muscles to lose strength and a very loooooog time to get it back. Hang in there!!!

Jamie, you are so right about getting that muscle strength back! My second knee is 7 months old and it is just now getting to where it was before surgery, which was weak. Now I need to keep going except I've got that other surgery on knee number 1, which is going to to set me back again. whew! You just can't win at this game, it seems.

Hollie, hang in there. It does sound like you are doing fine and don't worry about those men. You'll get there in your own time. Karen

Luckily for a year before surgery I went to my PT/Pilates instructor for overall training. So my quads and glutes were stronger than they've ever been just before surgery. My PT was trying to strengthen me to deal with my bad knees.

Maybe that helped.
